Re: Lunchbox inverters
Those new stickmates and thunderbolts are interesting, I had over looked those. Seems like some of the newer brands are offering more though.

Lunchbox inverters
I've noticed some of these little, dual voltage, stick/tig inverters are getting down into buzz box price ranges. I'm thinking I might try one, but I'm unfamiliar with the majority of the brands. Who's making good ones?

Wow, right out of an old scifi flick.
Also looks like the same plugs that are on my older Century cracker box.

How often do you use it? I've been thinking about getting one for yearsWerkSpace wrote:...I've owned this torch for more than 20 years and YES, it does what it says it does.

Re: cheap AC stick welder
I haven't checked in a while but it seems like all the newer Chinese AC buzz boxes only have a 10% duty cycle. If you look around it isn't too hard to find a used buzz box with twice the duty cycle for half the price, and some times they come with longer leads or other extras. Then a couple years fr...

Re: Twin carbon rod arc welding
Lincoln still has the manual for their carbon arc torch available. It is one of the better resources on how to use one that I've found. http://www.lincolnelectric.com/assets/servicenavigator-public/lincoln3/im199.pdf Unfortunately rather than telling you how to hard face farm equipment and weld alum...

Re: Transformer vs engine driven
I would much rather hire somebody who knows what they are doing, I just don't want to spend close to a grand in order to use a couple 100 buck welders. That's why I'm thinking engine drive.

Re: Transformer vs engine driven
I probably wouldn't use aluminum... I was thinking either 8/2 wire into an exterior outlet on the house with enough 8/3 SO cord to get to where I want or 8/2 buried in conduit to the shed with a sub box. Cost would be pretty close. Using the extension cord would an easier install and a pain in the n...

Re: Transformer vs engine driven
How much work you gonna be doing?? Not a whole lot. Mostly just repair and hobby work, but I would like to start welding a lot more often Long term property lease?? Yes, but may resell if the price is right. You gonna be getting more 240 equipment??? If I chance across a good deal on a nice air com...

Transformer vs engine driven
I have just moved into a new place without a garage. There are a couple of sheds about 70' from the house. One of them has a 20 amp 120 volt circuit, but no 240. So tonight I've been sitting here calling around asking for estimates on what it will cost to run 240 out there, and browsing online at th...

Re: Buying a used tig torches ?
If you look on Ebay & find the seller " Shop River " or " River Weld " their prices are very good & I have had very good service & no issues with quality - if your on a budget that's where I'd go - but if you find an old torch at a yard sale or somewhere for a few $ ...

Buying a used tig torches ?
I'm trying to get started with tig welding without spending too much. I'll be scratch starting with my ac/dc buzz box. I would like to buy a used gas valve torch, but I'm not sure what to look for. Is there anything that can go wrong with an old torch ? Is there a particular brand/model/size I shoul...
