When I do a hot pass with 7018, do I need to get every bit of slag out before I lay my fillers? Or can I get a most of it out and burn the rest out?
Also, any other tips would be well appreciated?
Thanks for all the feed back !!!!

Re: Root question
83amps , 1/8 gap and landing , 1/8 6011, the root from the back.
How does that look? How can I improve it?

What does the Welding community prefer when it comes to landing and gaps?
What are the pros and cons of a bigger landing vs. a smaller landing?
Also, pros and cons with the gap?

Re: Root question
Noddy ur right about the 6011 being on AC. The school provides the rod so I hat run with it. It could be that I'm going to slow. But if I speed up just a litte it seems as if the key holes isn't fill up fast enough. Maybe my rod angle is wrong. I run about a 5 to 10 deg travel angle. Wheresmejumer W...

Re: Root question
@noddybrian
Oh yeah sorry about that .....all that info would help
I was using 1/8 6011 DC rods running at 92 amp. 3/8 2G plate with 1/8 landing and gap.
I don't know about a transformer/invert.

Re: Question... Welding 1/8 angle
I repaired one rack so far. I'll get some pics of the weld tomorrow.
It just seemed too hot. The fit up wasn't to good and the weld wasn't clean. I should of used 6010 running them low

Re: Question... Welding 1/8 angle
I was very limited with what rods to use. I was at his mercy.
So it was only 6010 and some shitty 7018
A couple good fit and a couple bad fit and there was paint on the metal.

Re: Question... Welding 1/8 angle
Hey AK, It is a moble job, no mig available. So 7018 at 80 amps wouldn't melt the angle fast?and would 3/32 6010 not work better, it being a fast freeze rod with bad alignment? What ever the amps was on it, it melted the angle almost instantly And giving me troubles :) What would u use giving the ro...

Re: Question... Welding 1/8 angle
We had 3/32 6010 and 7018(which was horribly take care of)
The positions was 2,3 and 4F
I think we should of use the 6010 at around 60 to 65 amps
The weld we was using was a suitcase miller welder that could only handle 3/32

Question... Welding 1/8 angle
At my job I'm building racks(for experience, I'm currently a forklift driver) and I'm working with an "experience" maintenance/welder of 30 years. I need to know what rods and amps u would use to weld 1/8 angle to repair these racks. Some were not properly aligned. I think I already have a...

Re: 6011 root 2g 80 amps
AK, They were 3/32 7018 and I ran them at 94. Rod pointed up about 10deg and a 5deg travel angle... Jon, That's the problem I was having. My keyhole would get out of control. I I believe it was my gap. It was a little bit more then 1/8 in. Which made it hard for me to control. What gap do u like to ...

Superior,
Haha, yeah... The gap was wavy. My key hole got to big. But the first picture is what I want u to focus most on. Ha.
But also, insight on the root of the second pic

Re: Root problem with 3G plate
Thanks man, I'll try the 3/32 gaps this week.
Can I do circular motions with the 6010 on 3G plate? Or Is it only whip and pause and dragging?

Re: Root problem with 3G plate
Yep... That's was my problem. The weld arc.... I was long arcing way to much.
Does the gap and landing need to be the same size as the rod (1/8) or can I go smaller and a little tighter?
