“extra hands” tool ? help propping parts

I need to hold two parts in an exact position, steady, long enough to get some measurements. Two more arms/hands would be fine, but I’m not going to trouble the wife or a neighbor, besides humans have a tendency to slip out of position. The two pieces are not an ideal fit, actually I need both piece...

Re: Hey - from Tampa FL

'round my neck-o-the-woods we call that the "old-timers" disease :?

Just kidding ! I don't mind the double-welcomes. I feel double-special.

Re: My Welding Table Proj

Thanks all ! I was able to use the table as a work-bench today :D I had to solder-up a relay harness for my Suzuki DR560, & was nice to pull-up a bar stood in comfort and work on a nice solid table without fear of burning anything (but myself - LOL) ! So the outlets are working out just great. S...

Re: My Welding Table Proj

Next was rigging up the electrical when I want to use this as a regular workbench: http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff444/smithj108/Welding/8a151e61-811c-41da-ad7f-5fc485ceea4b_zps8fa4e2d5.jpg Time to hoist & lower the top. This is how the studs link into the frame: http://i1236.photobucket.c...

Re: My Welding Table Proj

Jonathan - you & I think along the same lines. Finished wiring the outlets last night, however, metal boxes are done, welded-in, and too late. More bad news is that I was NOT able to isolate grounds from the table because the receptacle’s mounting bracket itself is indeed tied to the ground pron...

Re: My Welding Table Proj

Hey ... got a quick concern/question ?? I plan to keep an extension-cord hardwired to the table to bring power to the two outlet boxes you see welded to the frame. These will only power handtools - not the welder. So, in regards to these AC outlet receptacles, all is metal (obviously), so I'm concer...

Re: My Welding Table Proj

Ok, so on to the bottom of this plate. Luckily I built an outdoor concrete table last month but it's really coming handy today - LOL !! First I hoisted the plate onto the table, then set the frame ontop in order to mark the stud holes. http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff444/smithj108/Welding/1C97...

Re: My Welding Table Proj

So I recently started on cleaning up the surface. After reading pros/cons on keeping the mill scale or not, I decided NOT. What a PITA to remove that crap! But, I did discover (trial & error) that soaking with CLR drenched paper towels, then a paint-remover/eater disc on my grinder was the best ...

Re: Hey - from Tampa FL

Well, decided to get my feet wetter with a 'table project'. A large section of thread-plate fell into my lap (not really - that would of hurt) and it's begged me to make a work-bench of it. I'll post it up over here - link.

My Welding Table Proj

Hi all, Perhaps a right-of-passage for a new (hobbist) welder such as myself ... but I thought it time to get a "better" surface to weld on aside from my tool box. Could also double as a work table for general projects. I wasn't in a hurry, but as fait would have it, I scored this section ...

Re: gas surge waste ?

A lot of great ideas on reconfigurations! Although I think a few might be convoluting the distinction between the part of the regulator that reduces the bottle’s psi and the CFH valve which controls gas flow rate. Albeit it’s a one-piece part so yet I do understand the confusion. That said, the relo...

Re: gas surge waste ?

Well, I did a quick search on this forum and didn't find much discussion on the topic, so decided to breach the subject, and great contributions to this thread so far! I like what many you have done. I really like the concept of putting the flow meter AFTER the welder. I'd imagine this to be just a ...

Re: gas surge waste ?

Thanks for the fast responses. I think the 1st thing I'll try is replacing my supply hose, perhaps steel braded flexible brake line, new of course. Would just need to adapt/splice correct fittings. With 40-50 psi available from the reg, I wouldn’t imagine the small hose ID would restrict flow very m...

gas surge waste ?

Hi all, I'm hobbyist and very new to TIG welding - slowly getting the hang of it. Anyway, being the curious & perceptive person that I am, it hasn't taking me long to despise that "sspshuuuuuuuu" sound every time I hit the peddle. It's not the noise, rather the wasted argon I know that...

Hey - from Tampa FL

Hello everyone. I'm a novice/beginner currently, just having my TIG machine a little over three weeks now. I blame Jody and all his great videos for providing me the confidence to finally pull the trigger - or stomp the peddle as it were - LOL. Never welded before, but at 40 years of age I thought i...
