Woah, that's good. Got details on the settings you used, out of interest?

Re: Distortion in 5/16" stainless plate
At what stage do you take out the wire? I guess seeing as you have to unclamp only when it's all room temperature again? I mildly warped some 10mm mild steel plate doing something similar on the weekend even though I was careful, slow, stepping around and clamped it hard to some straight heavy squar...

Re: Galvanized Project
I weld galvanized stuff all the time. If it's thick, grind it off with a grinder. If it's thin, a flap disc works great. Once sparks start flying, you're down to the metal. If possible get rid of all the galv nearby to the weld site and you're good to go. If it makes wispy, white smoke when welding ...

Re: what's the proper way to butt weld plate
1/8" plate I wouldn't bother with edge prep and I wouldn't care if there was no gap. If I had the choice I'd put a 1/16" or 1/32" gap, just because I find it easier to see the progression of keyholing. But if I fit up the parts and they came up flush I also wouldn't hesitate to weld i...

Re: practicing on 16 gauge tubing
Yeah, you could definitely fabricate your own jigs from square tube and offcuts and just clamp it to your job as required. I used round pipe because I already had the bender and the pipe clamps are cheap and I use them for big frame clamping jobs. I was making a framed thing not unlike your furnitur...

Re: practicing on 16 gauge tubing
Yea, I'm pretty sure I need to get that tungsten in closer to the puddle, I guess I'm afraid to cause my hand isn't steady enough to keep from dipping it in there pretty often  I'll work more on that, thanks! Daniel, there's a guy called Kevin Morin on weldingweb* who has made some posts in th...

Re: undercutting or underfilling tube joints
RPat, I've got a JD2 Notchmaster. Works well. They sell a bigger notcher that does notches in bends and offsets and stuff. Mine is expandable with some other products from Swag Offroad. I'm sure JD2 list the specs that their notchers are capable of.

Re: Another new tig machine question!!
The Fronius user manual suggests sine wave is more quiet than square wave and triangle is between these. Also that the square wave arc is the most stable and sine wave the least stable. It does not mention any influence on heat input. If the current is RMS measured, there should be none. Here's wha...

Re: My New welding cart
Not yet. I normally catch it pretty quick or I hear him coming but sometimes he'll be standing there. I can only hope he doesn't look directly at the arc because it's shielded by my hands or by the work geometry or whatever. Luckily I do more short runs than long runs so it's normally just a few sec...

My dog sneaks up on me welding and metalworking all the time. It sucks. I break an arc and he's standing right there watching.

Re: Tungstens? What are those?
I have considered it but wonder how I would do it. I use a bench grinder. I wouldn't want to grind a needle point and then hold the tungsten perpendicular to the wheel at speed - that's a recipe for disaster.Markus wrote:Flattening tip of the tungsten was new for me. Has anyone tried it?

Re: Miller Dynasty 200dx
I happened to come across one on ebay late last year, secondhand but minimal use. It was in my neighbourhood so I couldn't resist. Full contractor package and some torch extras, $2800. Not new, but in Oz. I don't know how often they come up secondhand. It was a FIFO worker who didn't have three phas...

That's a nice amp switch. Who makes it/where did you get it? No problems with heat?

Re: Ck ?
I recently bought a flex-loc and had some questions - one thing I can say is that CK has some excellent customer service and will answer emails very quickly with great information. Sure, their product catalogue is huge and confusing until you work it out, but if you ask them "this is my machine...
