Re: Aluminum boxes
Fun fact-if you are oxy fuelwelding and aren't wearing sleeves, be careful don't roll the filler wire onto your arm. Or if you are using an abrasive chop saw and want to protect a lathe behind it from sparks don't use a cotton welding shirt-it lights up fast with all the Sparks. Whatcha the opening...

Re: Miller Trailblazer 55G
Studying the wiring diagram in the manual here: https://www.millerwelds.com/files/owners-manuals/O459B_MIL.pdf Shows three brushes on slip rings, with one common to both weld and aux. power. That's where I'd check first. The exploded view is on page six of the "parts list", near the end o...

Re: Aluminum boxes
That dog box is really cool. Nice work! Ever lit that wood floor on fire? It only smokes for about 3 seconds then it goes out. I actually caught on fire the other day and burnt my shirt off of me. I lit a shop rag soaked in carb cleaner on my bench the other day. I could smell it burnin...

I have been playing around with a sheet metal brake on some 16 gauge diamond tread aluminum building everything from toolboxes to dog boxes. Thought I'd share.

Re: Plasma safety
Another safety precaution with plasma.....and oxy-fuel: don't cut with either real close to concrete......the moisture in the concrete has a tendency to turn to steam and expand rapidly....which ejects chunks of concrete! I was cutting on the floor of my shop with a 1/4" plate propped up off t...

Plasma safety
Here is an eye opening picture that shows exactly what plasma can do. This is a 2x4 (wood) that I had metal on I was cutting. The plasma cut about 1/2" deep into the board. Just a reminder anything under the flow of gas is susceptible to being cut. Keep all hands feet and other objects out from...

My plasma torch broke on my Everlast right in the middle of Christmas orders so I had to improvise. This 3/4" wall pipe that I was brought to make fire rings out of.

Re: Plasma or Oxy Acet
Well either are effective. I have both in my shop, I specialize in hand cut metal art with a plasma cutter but I broke the torch head on my machine in the middle of a big order so I had to resort to the oxy torch. I use the oxy primarily for heating metal and cutting thick metal or for portable cutt...

Re: Plasma Truth 101
I am running an Everlast plasma cutter doing hand cut metal art. I have ran on small compressors before with luck on short cuts. On Everlast website they have recommendations for cfm and tank size. Helps a lot but I just do what Jim recommends and go as big as I can.

Re: Hobart 140 settings for flux core .03 and .035 14ga and
For 14 gauge I usually use the settings for 16 gauge because it runs fairly hot. For 3/16" run on the highest chart setting for the wire size. For 12 gauge run the settings for 1/8". On 14 gauge you will want to jump around and do short beads. It will be too hot and distort too much if you...

Re: New Welding table
I added for swivel casters (locking) and I have flat bar on the other end for hanging angle grinders on. If you can't see it, I wired up an outlet box with 4 plugs and 6' of cord with a 110v plug so I can wheel it around and plug in anywhere and have power for tools.

The primed one is painted and waiting on customer. Aluminum one went to a guy as a birthday gift, he ended up buying a new truck for his birthday so it wouldn't fit so they sold it.

Update! Exactly 1 week after the engine blew, the tranny locked up. I swapped it out and here we are now and the replacement tranny locked up last week! But I towed a hat take all summer with the hitch, pulled a stuck F150 out of a ditch and never had any trouble out of the hitch! Now I am looking f...
