Re: Question of the day

When the hood drops for me all else goes away, all my nonesense goes blank and I just perform what is needed to make the weld, it is really weird that I have kinda lost the thinking about the weld and now it just kinda happens, not sure how but it does. About the exact same for me I was just wonder...

I was just sitting and thinking, what goes through everybody's head when the hood drops and the dimes start to stack? For me it's just peaceful what ever bull $h!t that happens during the day just seems to disapear when my hood drops and that arc starts and my head just clears. Was just curious if i...

Re: Right or Left Hand...

I always use my right hand but I practice left hand for going left to right with tig but if I'm wanting to stack dimes ill use my right hand holding the torch I would try going with the left hand holding the torch because you write left handed but hey being good at both couldn't hurt!!

Re: Got bored today

Nice! Find a cheap replacement bbq grate and tack a few tabs to hold it, and take the price up $50? Seriously, a lid for it so the user can extinguish a fire quickly if the wind comes up/keep the rain out when not in use would be a selling feature. I really need to do some rearranging and wir...

Got bored today

Re: Slag...

First on the welding table if you have the option of going thicker than 1/4 I would all the heat from welding will end up bowing the table top, And for stick welding Jody makes a bunch of good stick welding videos showing ALOT of arc shots and positioning ect... Another good one on YouTube is Chucke...

Tungstens

Is there a specific tungsten that should be used on mild steel? Or is it just kind of a user preference type deal?

Re: Advice on buying a Mig

I have a Hobart 210mvp. The tap settings for voltage don't bother me a bit. It also does very well on 115 v power. Maybe for thin autobody panels the click settings might not do quite as well at super low voltage but I don't think infinite settings are needed for most jobs. The 210 does have a plas...

Re: Another tig question...

Heliarc is the old school name for TIG, and it comes from the original use of helium shielding gas, which also has the effect of making the arc even hotter. Adding helium to argon is still a technique for boosting heat, but helium is more expensive. So basically the same thing just different shield...

Another tig question...

Here's another question about tig welding I have as I'm trying to learn for a career in a few years but here's my question of the day... What is heli Arc tig? And how does it differ from regular (well what I think is regular sorry if I'm wrong) tig welding with argon?

I have the 181i I wish I had the 211i but I got it for free but it's a great little welder and actually impressed me I'm happy with it and its very easy to move its easy to use and it has a door chart but now most mig welders do now.
