Re: Obtaining an R stamp?

It's a big PITA. And it costs money. $4500/year, if I heard it right. There's a demonstration to a WPS, and an audit of your procedures to verify they conform to the code. Our audit included the state Fire Marshall. The audit included safety procedures, and confined-space rescue plans. Welders doin...

Re: Tig welding

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum- first time posting a question so I hope I'm doing this right. I have a Miller Dynasty 300 DX tig runner. It seems to take far to long for the puddle to form. Using the 1 amp per thousand rule welding cold rolled steel w/ straight argon @ 15 cfm the puddle shoul...

Obtaining an R stamp?

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone on here has gone through the process of obtaining an R stamp for their business? I am starting to get my poop in a group to launch my own business and one of the things I want to do is obtain an R stamp.

Thanks,

Some pics of practice, also What helped me was to step Away from the amptrol and use lift start or scratch start then stop fussing over settings and just weld.

Re: Tig welding radiators that have been furnace brazed help

Has anyone had any experience welding on aluminum that has been furnace brazed? I have been told that the radiators on dirtbikes are furnace brazed when the are built. But it's common to add some bracing or weld up the tanks on them. But it's a real pain in the ass and very difficult to have a good...

Re: Help me find a welder

what's wrong with a Hobart Stickmate or Miller Thunderbolt. Max draw is 47 amps input at 23mone output. I never weld above say 160 amps with 1/8th inch 6011 or 7018. A lincoln AC/DC 225 draws 50 amps max on AC and 36 amps max on DC. You might not get the absolute max out of your welder, but do you ...

Ever consider buying a used generator welder? You can use em anywhere. I have actually. I have about a thousand dollar limit, so I don't know if that's feasible for a generator welder. If you are patient and keep a close eye on craigslist I bet you could nab something decent for that. http://duluth...

Jonathan makes an excellent point. I don't do it often, but I will share the welds I'm disappointed with, and discuss why. There's possibly more value in discussions of "fails" than successes, because a fail always has a "why" we can reach, and learn from. I think we all tend to...
