torch amps

How far can you push the max amp rating of a air cooled torch? I've got 2 torches now 9 & 17. Been doing some aluminum at 165 amps and wondering if the 17 is way maxed out to the poin't of needing to buy another torch. If I need to upgrade can I use the 17 hose and just buy the head?

Re: What to clamp to?

At school they had a vert pipe bolted to the floor with the work table welded to the pipe. The ground was clamped at the bottom of the pipe on all machines. I never had any grounding issues this way.

Bought a brand new dual outlet reg for backpurging. Spent almost 250.00. One side is defective valve will not close or regulate flow. Now I am stuck waiting on parts. I would understand if it was a throw down cheapie or if I bought it used but come on.

Re: Choosing a school - Lincoln or Hobart?

I would look into a comunity college. I started a month ago and its been great. 400.00 for 16 weeks. Its only 2 nights a week at 3 1/2 hrs. I didn't know shit at the start and am really getting comfortable even though I have a long way to go.

I am a NOOB please don't laugh. All I can say is practice. The best advice I can give is GO SLOW. Trying to go too fast has been my biggest prob at school.

Re: How is this weld done?

I AM A NOOB please don't laugh. I wound up wit that pattern last night at school walking the cup on vert. I don't know how but after the pass I thought it looked like a weave not a straight flat stack of dimes. My teacher didn't have a prob so I thought it was ok.
