Where to sell metal art

Etsy, Craigslist, FB, flea markets etc... Sold my stuff in local art studios too. It’s important to make sure your going to make enough to be happy doing it. I just hate spending that much labor only to get so little in return. I starting charging my OT rate just because I was working on my art outs...

Re: Old Airco TiG/Stick welder weird on Alu/TIG

Could be one of your ideas above. Tungsten issues, dirty aluminum etc... Does it have AC balance or any other controls? Usually, with an older welder, the first few welds are kinda "smutty", then as it all gets hotter it smooths out. These newer Welders with their inverters have so many fe...

Re: Disappointing online welder purchase

That sucks! I'm glad the welder works good. Regardless, If it does not say that the images in picture may vary and the price advertised was with the longer leads and the suit case, the company owes you. You paid for what was advertised. Otherwise it is illegal "bait and switch". Those comp...

Re: Welding Myths

Hi there, Has any one ever heard of dipping a CELLULOSE electrode in water right before you use it. Our teacher told us that and we tried it but have never used them anywhere else to find out whether it was crap or not. Mick I had an old Pipefitter show me that as well but you never do it on a rod ...

Re: Welding Myths

I've found that, when restarting a 6010 I've already burned part of, dipping the tip in water makes the restart easier. I have no idea why. @ Hilbilly_delux, Are you also on the IPR forum? Steve Water conducts electricity better than the scab on the end of your electrode. You can get injured or kil...

Re: Welding Myths

Stainless welding won't give you the shakes (or at least it's never happened to me, and I've welded a lot of it), but it can be toxic. If you read the MSDS that comes with a can of SS stick rod, you'll see Hexavalent Chromium fumes listed as a hazard. Remember the movie, "Erin Brockovich"...

Thanks! Regardless, it's still good discussion.

Re: Tig welding stainless to carbon

I've never had a test like that, but I've had to weld a lot of CS Hydraulic lines to SS or unknown Alloy fittings. Usually we have to watch for hot cracking from the different materials shrinking at different rates. I've found that it helps to really feed the rod to it to keep the torch moving faste...

Re: Aluminum storage container

Great work! On the topic of hourly rates though, I run a Locksmith Business and do a lot a welding on the side under that business permit. My Locksmith rate is usually $60/hr. Since most of my lock customers are the ones offering me welding work, I will just charge them the same rate. There is one b...
