Re: New welding table. I think I bit more than I can chew...

I love supporting the local hardware store, and I go there about 2X's a week, but sadly all they supply in the way of welding and grinding comes from the "Forney" company, and they might as well be called Phony! I'm not sure if you've ever tried that brand, but they have the "looks li...

I saw four types on that page...did you use the 2nd one down? I tried to cut and paste the "Course Fleece Cleaning Wheels" and was also sent to the preceding page, so it isn't your link that's bad, just how they route the incoming web traffic. Those remind me of a Norton wheel I use called...

I learned this lesson early on as well, only after unbolting the piece and smacking me in the hand. Got lucky nothing got broke a s I didn't go flying off the ladder. Was a good lesson, never assume the guy before you gave a ish about those that work on it later. Yup, I actually prided myself in ev...

"Rick_H" Matching the existing frame work and drops is always interesting...lol Ain't that always the case...I would get my hack'n'tack foreman's eyes bulging out when I unbolted anything that looked to have a bind on it, no matter how minor it looked. After having numerous drops, manifol...

No comp, it a full mechanical motor, I will put the 4k governor spring in with some decent injectors and I am going to try to cram a hx30 over a he341 in there for air[/quote] That's what I like to hear, old school reliability meets new tech performance enhancements. That things gonna be a tank! Put it in 1st and just tap the throttle and up the hill she goes. Nice mod, just be careful not to do what I did in my Suzuki Samurai. Rolling over backwards is rather unnerving even if you end up back on your wheels, especially when your "roll-bar" is stamped ...

I gotta say, that sure looks nice...heck, I'd be hapy with just one section of table like that, I'm still using a Craftsman vise anchored to a folding picnic table, I used almost all of the steel that was left from the trailers that my folk's pre-fabbed home was towed to the property on for a...

Re: New welding table. I think I bit more than I can chew...

The first slab looks excellent...would be epic to have them surface ground, and epically expensive I'd wager. Keep on truckin' and don't be too sour when you need a new bit, that's allot of steel to chew through! I always enjoyed the black strip of paper on the lens of the hood you loan the helper w...

Evidently The California Zephyr runs through there. I saw that, I thought it was strictly a cargo line, but the Zephyr No. 6 is called tha "Capitol Corridor" and takes you from San Francisco all the way to NYC, and shows numerous highlights on the trip from the Sierra-Nevada's, to the Roc...

Re: Snowplow Dolly

UPs' transcon rail line through the Donner pass is a hell of a thing in the snow. 24 hours a day just to keep it open. That's one line I'd love to hop, I don't think they use that leg for Amtrak anymore, but if they did it would be a spectacular view, and worth the ticket just to see the work that ...

Re: Stick Welding Rods

I suppose maybe I was unclear in what I was intending to convey, and maybe that's why I'm not getting the answer I was after. I've welding literally tons of 7018 and was inquiring as to how the view of the puddle compares when welding with one of the higher tensile strength rods as opposed to that o...

Very sweet build, and I can't say I'm not green with envy...those Build-Pro tables are incredible, I sure wish I'd thought of that myself, he he. Re: Stick Welding Rods

I wouldn't think so, but then again as I've never welded with one I don't actually know or would even begin to claim to. In my imagination I would think that the flux coatings on a 11018 and a 7018 are both quite similar, if not identical, but as I've never run a bead of any I'm unsure and would lov...

Re: Stick Welding Rods

I must say I've never welded any of the high tensile Lo-hy rods, in fact I never even heard of them until watching Jody's videos. I was an "on the job" trained fitter-welder in the petro-chem industry for about 10 years. Building tons of pipe for fuel depots, ship to shore lines under pier...

Not discounting anyone's opinions on clarity of seeing the puddle, but doesn't Jody magnify his videos to make the puddle appear huge? I can recall at least a couple of videos he said that the views were magnified for better illustration. Just chiming in with a humble thought in case it was a scale ...
