Re: Bug holes in 5P+

I was wondering the same thing. I have heard that often with 5p+; and that even with regular 5p it's not an issue. And for a lot of places, they are only running the bead with 5p+ and filling and capping with a 7010 or 8010 and those don't seem to have that issue either. Seems to be fairly common ac...

walking the cup

Dumb question, but can you walk the cup with a flex head torch? I could see if the torch is too flexible it would bend when trying to walk it. I've obviously never used one, so thanks for the help.

309 test on carbon steel pipe

I have seen Jody demonstrate and heard of people taking a 6g test on carbon steel with er309 rod. My question is, what does that qualify someone for? Are they only qualified for ss electrodes, or does it also qualify them for stainless material as well?
Thanks

Re: Stahlwerk?

I live in the US, and happened to see that same welder/plasma cutter on Amazon a couple of days ago. It had a lot of bad reviews and complaints of problems right out of the box. That doesn't mean it hasn't been fixed, just wanted to let you know.

FieldRes is back

Hey just a comment for those looking for downhill stick welding pipe videos (as well as uphill and tig pipe welding vids), FieldRes just came out with 3 new vids after vacating his YouTube for 3 months. One is tig welding titanium pipe. For a young guy, he has a lot of knowledge and doesn't mind sha...

Re: Motion for the 6010 pipe root?

I'm no expert, but from what I've seen most people, with the right root and landing, crank up the heat and shove it in and drag. This is a good one for Otto Nobedder, cause I've read some of his posts and thats what he does. Check out FieldRes on YouTube and xAZAZELx13 as well, both show down hand ...

Re: Stainless welding

So are you pretty much supposed to run ss rods with the same technique as a 7018?

Re: Stainless welding

Hey thanks for posting those vids, I just subscribed to you on YouTube. Cool stuff! Where in Europe are you, and what kind of welding do you do, mostly shop or mostly in-plant, and what type of plant? Saw you weld in paper mills.

Re: Are you a stick weldor? you need to see this video!!!

Another good video with great arc shots is Under the Hood, by a Boilermaker from Louisiana. Shows a tig root and hot pass with 7018 fill and cap on 2" pipe, and 6010 root and hot pass (downhill and up) with 7018 fill and cap on 6" pipe. Not nearly as much explanation as Jody or Steve does ...

Re: Bending the Electrode

Gotta agree with you guys, something I was told from day 1, if you need to bend it, bend it (just don't weld past the flux). I think in Jody's video on 2" pipe 6g (the stick portion), he talks about and shows choking up on the rod and bending it.

Re: Downhand pipe welding with 6010

xAZAZELx13 has lots of downhand, in position videos on YouTube , but none have the up close arc shots that Jody has. Still, its worth checking out. They're all on the pipeline.

Inverted branch tee

One video I haven't seen anyone do is the branch tee. I don't know if Jody's background includes API welding of anykind, but it be great to see the measurements, torch cuts, fit-up, and weld it out. I know that's asking a lot Jody, but I thought it was worth a shot! Thanks for all the vids and tips ...
