Re: Xtreme 12vs
Most likely just be mild steel, .035-.045 wire. I was just considering the cst 280 as a power source because it's easily portable. What makes it different from running on that as opposed to an xmt with a vs option?

Xtreme 12vs
Hey guys, curious if anyone knows if you can run an xtreme 12vs off of an cst 280? Cst 280 is basically an inverter stick welder with a very plain jane tig function. I'm just curious because the cst is way more portable than an xmt is. Xmt does have a function for cc/cv and a vs option, but im guess...

Table for my sons room
Built a table for my son. Drew the design up on AutoCad, and had the legs laser cut. Had a little bit of undercut on a couple of the spacers I welded, but came out pretty nice. The orange really stands out, but that's what he wanted. X leg is a good sturdy design.

Re: XMT 304 Input Power
gee, I now find myself in the same camp as the young Alaskan. go to miller's site, go to products, click multi process, click xmt 304. READ WHAT IT SAYS. quit wasting peoples time and receiving well intentioned yet totally unnecessary info. if all of that requires too much effort, then pick up the ...

Re: XMT 304 Input Power
If your machine is rated for 230 3-phase, it should run fine on 208. If it's a basic transformer machine as I suspect (I didn't look it up), expect to set somewhat higher amperages than if the machine were on true 230. If it's digitally controlled, expect normal response. Have you metered the line?...

Re: XMT 304 Input Power
I don't know anything about an XMT 304, or a lot of other things so I'm safe from John's signature line. Can't you run an outlet off of the incoming 3 phase and only use two legs and a ground and get 460 single phase for the welder? I've hooked up a Miller Syncrowave 700 that way and a Lincoln Prec...

Re: XMT 304 Input Power
I own a CST 280 that is also labeled 230/460. I've ran it off of 208 a few times. I was just curious if it prematurely destroys the machine. I'm sure it will weld on 208, I just dont want to burn it up as this will be in the shop and always hooked up to 208 3 phase

XMT 304 Input Power
I've seen a bunch of different models, but I was curious if you can run a 230/460 single or three phase model, off of 208? The machine comes on, but I didnt try welding with it. I noticed they have models for 208, so I'm guessing no.

ESAB Aristorod 12.5
Anyone ever run this wire? I would be using .035 along with 75/25. I didn't price it, but I'm sure it is more expensive. I was just curious of it's characteristics and your thoughts.
Thanks

Re: Easiest CAD to learn?
If you're retired, take some night college courses. I've been using AutoCAD for about 14 years now. You can go online and get a free student copy if you're learning. I have all kinds of parts plasma and laser cut all the time. Once you go that route, the possibilities are endless. Things fit togethe...

Tacked together some washers, and created a little sculpture/art piece. Pictures are before I did some grinding and polishing. Probably add some kind of pedestal to it.

Re: Custom Bed Frame
It's not the MH19 or whatever the big beefy new Baileigh is it? That's one of them, but it's too far above my price range. I would love to demo one though. I actually found an old Yoder style hammer. Guy says it works great and he has a bunch of dies to go with. I need to take a road trip to check ...

You're definitely correct on more room means more tools. I do a lot of custom sheet metal work and have really had my eye on this power hammer.

I used 2x2 16g tubing, and had the gussets feet and tabs cut out of 1/4" plate. It's definitely a sturdy bed.exnailpounder wrote:NIce!! I would assume that it is made with lighter ga. material? Post some pics of it done please.

Custom Bed Frame
My son wanted a custom steel bed frame. This is what I came up with. Drew some gussets and feet up on AutoCAD and had them laser cut. I just hand sanded the mill scale to different shades to give it some texture, and then shot a few coats of acrylic clear coat on it. Still needs a little wet sanding...

Cobra Mig 260 w/python push pull gun
Just curious if anyone has ever used one of these? Looks like they might actually make the push pull guns for Miller and Lincoln. This machine looks like it has some nice options. I have a Miller 252 but was interested in leaving this set up for aluminum. Now I've used a 350p before and really do li...

Miller CST 280
I just picked up a brand new cst 280. I got it at such a deal that I'm pretty ecstatic. Anyway, I just hooked it up and laid down some beads. Seems to be a nice machine. I plan on using it for pipe welding. Not sure I would ever use the tig function as it is pretty plain Jane. I guess in a pinch it ...

Re: Any Pipe Welders out there?
Well it looks like a fitter got his money out of this one too. Had to completely replace a couple of fittings and gouge all the others. Spent 3-1/2 times the hours he had bid on it. Sucks for him, but pretty sure he learned a good lesson the hard way.

Jake. Your buddy is an idiot. ;) In that situation you call the LWS and they'll refer you to one of their customers with a portable rig. $100-300 and that repair would have been right, insured and guaranteed. The low end would be the guy around the corner. Travel time hurts if you're in the boonies....

Lmao, I sure hope that video was meant to be a joke! I've worked for shops that never do welding jobs, and then they get one and hire on some guys to do the work. Its always a drag to try and explain to them how it needs to be done and why. Everybody is a welder till it comes time to light up that a...

Any Pipe Welders out there?
I have a buddy who owns a mechanical company in the trades industry. He had some threaded three inch gas pipe and found it had to be welded by local code. I told him to hire a pipefitter (one that can weld pipe, not just thread like he has) but like most mechanical companies I know, they think they ...
