Re: First Welding project...Tacoma center console strong box
I'm pleased to see you having a go at what is quite an ambitious project early in your welding work. A lot of good sense on display in your photos -- planning, working to size -- and that bodes well for the future. I cannot quite make up my mind about your materials: overkill in thickness? is it cl...

Re: First Welding project...Tacoma center console strong box
So I got some of the welding done today. I am using my Everlast inverter 160 STH running DC on 220 power. I started using some Lincoln 3/32 7018ac sticks and I was getting a lot of worm holes in my welds so I switched to some Lincoln 3/32 6013 rods and the welds got a little better. My 6013 bead: ht...

First Welding project...Tacoma center console strong box
I am embarking on my first welding project. After doing nothing but running bead after bead for stick practice I am finally taking on my first project. I am building a strong box that is going to fit in my trucks console. I am building it out of 3/16 sheet steal and it will hold my CCW and other val...

Re: Some welding career advice needed
Thank y'all for all the suggestions. All your advice is taken and added to my plan. My plan is to go at it slowly until I get some jobs under my belt. I like the IT world I just can not work for the man much longer. I am not worried about the physicality of welding. I am a endurance athlete and a mu...

Some welding career advice needed
OK I am 47 and in need of a career change and I am seriously considering welding as that change. I am currently in the IT field doing routing and switching with some project management. I am making right at 6 figures and although the money is good the job is a dread and my cube is slowly becoming my...

My first welds, help please.
OK I posted this is another form but I wanted to post it here also because I feel this form is very helpful. I have been welding for two weeks and the attached photo is my first attempt at true welding and running some beads so please don't laugh too hard. I was using 6011, 6013 and 7018AC/DC+ rods ...

Re: TIG Welding Aluminum on DC
Good to see this DC aluminum talk. I only now have a Everlast PA 160STH and I was told that I could not weld aluminum. Well that is a bad thing since one of my projects was going to be a flat boat. Let me ask, if you have a AC stick can you weld aluminum with those after market TIG rigs?

Re: Need some advice on buying a welder
Jay, The pedal is very useful, especially when you're ready to learn aluminum, or weld very thin material. Just to start, though, It's not needed, and you'll learn more about puddle control without it. I would recommend a remote start switch, at the least, so you can take advantage of HF start, if ...

Re: Need some advice on buying a welder
Well I pulled the trigger today and got the Everlast 160 STH. My next question is do I need the peddle to TIG or is that only for variable amps during the weld? I am assuming that I can set a amp and TIG with it.

[quote="WerkSpace"] http://www.everlastgenerators.com/PowerARC-160-STH-390-pd.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CblpZF54_uM Well after three days of weighing options and pricing, I decided upon the Everlast 160STH. I looked at it this way. The Hobart Stickmate LX 235/160 is $499 at TS a...

Need some advice on buying a welder
I was given a old Century AC stick welder that dies last night. I have a $500 budget. What welder would you suggest that is TIG capable be it lift or pedal. I don't know much about TIG so I really do not know the advantages of either but I can learn on either as well. I am looking at the Longevity T...

Never welded before and eager to learn
Hello y'all I am Jay and I live in Mission Texas. I am new to welding and am eager to learn how to weld. I was given a older Century 100 AMP AC Welder with two helmets and I can not just let it sit in my garage. So I am looking forward to learning from this site.
