Re: Cleaning Mill Scale for TIG

I like phosphoric acid. This is some brackets soaked in 21% mix after about two hours. 8mm hot rolled flat bar.
Welds nice and clean, no acetone just a quick rinse with water and let dry.

Re: Learning in Alaska

My first choice would be Tig but Oxygen/Acetylene would work too, and most likely to be found close. If you are on Instagram look for @mikechallgren he does some awesome aircraft models from that size of wire. You don't need to have Instagram, just Google his username and you will be able to view hi...

Re: Lots of Coupons, Poor Mig Welds Automotive Sheet Metal

Thin gage can be tricky but you have done right goin for 0.025 wire. Skip the magnets, will disturb the arc if close so you'll struggle getting the heat where you want it. I usually run very short bursts when patching cars, rather like tacking but overlapping. That way you can crank up the amps to g...

Re: Aluminum bar to cast aluminum.

I have, but to 1050, not to 60-series.
Used 4043 filler
Came out a little bubbly but not to bad. Casting was a lightning pole, clean but with some degree of porosity.
Still holding up as far as I know.

Re: New on the forum

Welcome.
What price range do you have in mind and what do you I tend to use it for?
On the high end machines you probably have Esab EWm and Kemppi available not so sure about mid range alternatives for you but I believe Thermal arc are available in Portugal.

Re: Unstable AC Arc on low current

Based on my experience I have to disagree a bit. It does a difference mainly at initiating the arc before it gets stable, which is most important on thin metal, not so much on thicker when you hit it harder initially. Not all machines are equal nor the welder behind it. Aaron that shot that video is...

At that low current I would go down to 1/16 electrode. Carry current better at low settings.

Re: how to cut 16 gauge sheet metal

This type of electric shear can cut quite narrow curves.
For a non daily use the Harbour Freight version do well, at least if you rough cut first.

Re: Filler rod melts into blob that doesn't fall

I think this was my problem too starting with aluminium, trying to add filler before the puddle is hot enough.

You need to watch the puddle til it looks like a mirror, then add filler.

The CK 20 is rated at 250 amps AC and DC at 100% duty, the few times you need more just change to the 18 torch.
That will serve you well

Re: Tig torch opinions

If you want to use it at machine Max and for longer runs I would say you need a 18 torch. Same as your 17 but water cooled. The 9 you get will not hold long runs over 125 amps DC (it's not water cooled). The 20 is water cooled and will do roughly 200 amps if I remember correctly. 9 and 20 use the sa...

CK Worldwide is the name of the company that design and make the stuff. Jody is one of their distributors among many others. Sometimes the contract prevents one distributor to export.

Sorry about your loss Steve and I sincerely hope you'll get better soon.

Did they check for Borrelia? It is amazing how often they miss that for such common infection and wrongly diagnose as a bad flue because of the similar symptoms.
