Re: Aluminum Alloy for a gas tank

Thanks for the video. I was unsure of using 1100 filler at first, still am a bit because I've read/heard is crack sensitive (I don't believe everything I hear, but take it into consideration). I'm concerned about the vibrations that will be present while the tank is in use and the stress it might pu...

Aluminum Alloy for a gas tank

I would like to make a gas(octane) tank for a motorcycle and I'm not sure what series Aluminum to use. I've read that 1xxx is recommended but Ive tried and research on the topic with no luck. It needs to be easy to work with, since I will be hammering it and putting it through the english wheel. If ...

Re: Pulse welding.

Hi - I think to pulse or not is largely personal preference unless there is a weld procedure for the job your doing - if so stick to what it says - if not the pros are it can help control heat input & avoid or reduce distortion - especially on stainless - at low pps it helps maintain steady fil...

Pulse welding.

I ended up buying a Dynasty 200DX and been playing around with all the buttons and what not. I realized that I've been pulsing (1pps, 60%on 40%background @120A for .120' wall DOM tube) for the past 2 days on all the steel I've welded. I am curious if I am making this a bad habit? I know pulsing can ...

why is oxygen used in MIG?

Im learning about MIG on my own, currently I'm on gas mixtures pros n cons. I do not understand why oxygen is used in MIG. I was taught in school that in TIG welding: oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen contaminate the tungsten and the weld, making it porous and brittle. I do understand that TIG and MIG are ...

Re: 304 food grade cookie tray HELP PLEASE!

Yes it is possible but I think your method sounds too complicated. From what I understand/know (I'm no expert) you can use any container that is air tight or somewhat airtight (depending on what you are welding). You need an intake (argon comes in) and an exhaust (atmosphere exits) port, once your c...

Re: 304 food grade cookie tray HELP PLEASE!

Thanks for the tips. So the described stainless I plan to use is good enough? I think Im just going to get another bottle of argon and hook up a flowmeter and use it for purging.
Thanks again

304 food grade cookie tray HELP PLEASE!

Hi, I was asked to make a custom cookie mold/tray out of stainless steel that can bake 40 cookies at once. The cookie molds will be welded to the tray so that the baker can just place the cookie mold tray on an aluminum baking tray, fill the molds with dough, and after its done baking, he can just l...

Re: How does Mig work/how does it weld aluminium

Thanks you so much for your explanation, everything made sense. I hate knowing how to do something but not knowing the theory or purpose behind what you are doing. Its like doing an oil change in a car, its easy to do, but most don't know why is has to be done. I hope that made sense lol. Thanks aga...

Re: How does Mig work/how does it weld aluminium

Thanks for the links and the info. Can you please explain how the DCEP and DCEN work? I'm a bit confused, I though DCEN did the penetration. I guess the heat input from DCEP is enough to penetrate the work correctly in MIG? sorry if these questions are dumb. Thanks for the help

How does Mig work/how does it weld aluminium

Hi, Just want to say Hi to everyone in the forum, I'm a hobby welder and I'm here to get schooled. lol I tried looking up how MIG is capable of welding Aluminum and I can't find a detailed explanation. I know how to MIG weld, but I don't really understand how the process/theory works either, my gues...
