Re: Troubleshooting DCEN for Al setup
I recall that many years ago when I worked at Rocketdyne, there was some excellent welding being done on aluminum and stainless as well. This was before square wave and inverter technology was invented. The machines used were some of the big Aircos and other so-called Heli-arc machines. They used st...

Re: Introducing Filler Rod On Aluminum GTAW???
One thing that is important is to keep the filler rod within the shielding gas envelop as your weld progresses. It took me a while to get this correct. If the rod is moved too far out in between each dip, it can cause contamination. Jody has a number of videos on the website where proper use of fill...

Re: problem with syncrowave 200 digital
What I meant by not getting full amps was with the machine set to 200 I would only actually get 180 to 130 amps at full pedal. I will asIk about the breakers. syncrowaves are great machines I have a 300 in.net shop at home but mine is water cooled. The fan on his machine runs, almost constantly. Cou...

Re: problem with syncrowave 200 digital
Good evening. I have a Miller Syncrowave 200 like the one your friend has with the digital meters. You said "The problem is you can't get the full 200 amps out of it. Sometimes I could get 180 sometimes only 130". I'm not quite clear what you mean. Are you saying that when you use the ampe...

Re: Aluminum Gas Tank Repair
Many years ago, I owned a 500cc Matchless Motorcycle. It developed a fuel leak from a visible crack on one corner of the fuel tank where a threaded plate held one corner down. I took the tank to a local welding shop and asked to have it fixed. The owner who was also a weldor put a hose from his car ...

Re: I need some etching acid!
Phosphoric acid is available from most any chemical supply warehouse. I use it in my shop from time to time to remove surface rust and to pickle clean metal. I pay about $20 for a gallon of 70% phosphoric acid. The same place that sells phosphoric also has any other acid you might want, although if ...

Re: New Flow Meter???
I use a ball type flowmeter and set it at around 20 SCFH. I have a Lincoln SP175 Plus and I use straight CO2. It does ordinarily give a bit more spatter, but I control this nicely by keeping a container of Welding Gel nearby. I will dip the warm tip right in the gel and then continue with my welding...

Re: TIG Welding Aluminum on DC
New poster here. Thought I would start somewhere. I recall many years ago when I was working as a rocket engine mechanic and assembler at Rocketdyne in Los Angeles California, I marveled at the lovely welds done on the alumnum liquid oxygen ductings and also on the stainless steel ductings used for ...
