Re: More Math
Patch panel meaning in sheet metal or thicker metal. I reminded myself of a famous ship's hull restored. Any area too thin to be saved it was marked with a white border surrounding the area. I forgot the name of the ship but I think it was a ship in war. Expensive. Anyways. Now the technical part of...

More Math
I am not sure where to begin. I haven't logged in for months, wish I could say honestly I was busy but no. All this time I have wondered about the math. I see pos trucks with a engine stick welder and I dream. Then I wonder about the math required to make repairs or simple fabrication jobs. Then I a...

Re: Shop ideas, suggestions for a beginner
I went to Lowes to buy two pieces of unistrut. I could fit them in an explorer I drove then. Now I can't buy that length, they're 10 ft long each. Most places deliver anyways. I like the idea of building up stock, even if I don't know what size I will use most.

Shop ideas, suggestions for a beginner
Do I need a truck? How does anyone get the metal for jobs? I want to know which is more common to get the metal.

Re: Flux uphill, downhill, push or pull
After I typed this question, I found a video by Kevin Caron, a sculpture, who says push or pull either way is fine, that there is no one way. But, I prefer to push after reading a bit more.

Re: Engine welders
Rick and Will, now it all makes sense! After reading both of your explanations, I did not scratch my head. Will - to answer your first question, I won't have to worry about finding an outlet. Answer to second - I have a 135 Handler. It was a used gift that I never complained about being used. Answer...

Re: Engine welders
What is a common problem when flux is more suitable than stick? I believe yall, it's just that I want an image. I can see one problem already. In close areas, the electrode of stick welding might be in the way?

Re: Engine welders
So there are things to do with stick that can't be done with flux?

Flux uphill, downhill, push or pull
I have read the manual provided with my Hobart 135 welder. It was a used gift. I weld flux because it's easier than using gas and I weld outside. I usually point the wire toward the weld puddle at around 15 degrees and pull. If that is wrong, what is better?

Re: Engine welders
I am new here. I am trying to pick an engine welder. Having stick and MIG/flux in the same welder doesn't seem practical because stick and flux do not require a shielding gas. I hope one day soon to start a business so I will have more questions.

Engine welders
Why have stick and MIG/Flux in the same welder? Just pick one process because stick and flux do not require a gas. It seems to me stick and TIG are the most important processes to have.
