Re: Tig Stainless steel back purge

I believe you need a bit more gas.
I'm a big fan of gas lens. Use your biggest cup, as little stick out as possible.
Strive to hold torch at equal angle to both faces of an outside corner.
Where you can, bend the corner & join with a butt weld.

If you can, cut a square hole in the plate. Pass the tube through, weld the other side.

Re: Tungsten balled on me

I wouldn't expect Diversion to ball on DC. It is fixed at 72% Electrode Negative, preventing much tendency to ball even on AC, but it would at 170 amps.

Be sure you are on DC, use an 1/8" tungsten, any flavor but pure, and grind more crayon shaped than needle shaped.

I like your avatar. I thought Reddy Kilowatt was a regional thing. Green mountain Power's predecessor Central Vermont Public Service, (CVPS) had Reddy on the door of each truck. The slogan "The can do company" was under his image. I always said they added 't to the word can. No matter what...

GH Grimm in Rutland VT went from soldering all their joints to TIG. They bought two huge Lincoln TIG machines and a wall full of purge blocks for each shape they purge. You might take a piece of square stock, or heavy aluminum angle. Grind to the radius of your joint. Cut "worm tracks" whe...

You will find various inverter machines work on single phase, or three phase. My Miller Dynasty 280DX will use 200 to 600 volts in single, or three phase. I'm sure other machines will also, I'm just not familiar.

Medical oxygen has to 95% or more. Welding cutting oxygen is 99.5 or more. Dave Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-J320A using Tapatalk I don't follow, sorry. I was uninformed several years ago. Wanted to weld aluminum, asked a "friend" who managed an Airgas store. I shouldn't have done that. Weeks later I hoped to understand why my new welder didn't measure up. My education began! Steel & stainless steel weld easy with inexpensive machines....

I haven't welded medical tanks. I have welded firefighter air tanks. I believe they are used at 2200 LBS G. After weld I used much less pressure. It worked fine.

Aluminum MIG is normally considered to be a 1/8" and thicker process. I've done little, but found it tough on thin metal. I'd think you need a much bigger machine for a spool gun to work. Miller did react to the new Ford trucks with all aluminum bodies. They call it "optimized" for th...

We include the frame of any electrical machine, many hand held tools, pretty much all conductive materials you might come in contact with. They are sai...

If you get hooked on TIG you will evolve to a 200 amp rated water cooled torch. These are based on the format created in the Heliarc Torches of the 1960s. Mine is Weldcraft 280 sold as OE with the Miller Dynasty 280 DX. CK & others have torches improved from mine, but similar. You'll need a cool...

I'm concerned about the "fusion pass" aluminum (it gets complicated, I'd need two pages) doesn't work well without filler.
Two passes is OK, both need filler.

There is a glue advertisement where a man glues his hat to a hoist fitting. He glues himself using 1 square inch of surface. He then hangs high in the air. A tensile strength of 200 psi isn't hard with most glue. If you add any of several stressers, It'll separate. You have a lot of load calculation...
