Re: How to prevent general welding projects from rusting?

I've had good success with this https://aquasteel.co.uk/rust-treatment/ on both new & second hand material - it goes on looking like milk & as it reacts it turns blue or black - once cure any normal paint will bond to it - stinks though while curing.

Re: Thin disc loose on grinder, also need general info

I would agree thin discs require more care than regular ones -that said - all off hand grinding discs can break if used incorrectly - with basic precautions they should not pose an unacceptable risk - I assume your grinder is old enough they did'nt allow for the modern 1mm slitting discs but the onl...

I kinda want to say I'm glad it's not just me that struggles with seeing clearly but in truth I'd be happier if everyone had awesome eyesight & could weld with sub par clarity masks - it's funny - when I was learning to weld as a lad I made fum of " old timers " that were probably abou...

Re: Visit OR...

It#'s funny - I weld with an autodark years back & have had several in various makes & they seemed like the answer at the time but recently got so fed up with them taking odd sized hard to get expensive covers running low on battery when all the shops are shut - flashing anytime I'm out near...

Glad you have it figured out - sorry none of us caught it sooner - it always looked like a gas issue as Oscar said - if we knew you had argoshield we could have saved some time and grief - in BOC speak their 100% argon is branded pureshield - in theory they should have sold you the correct gas assum...

Anyone else think the 4 seconds of post flow is very short ? unless your using small diameter tungsten at low amps try longer post flow.

P.S. welcome to the forum.

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

Not really - just a little light banter till Oscar gets his rods - then I'm sure we will get his take on them & he's man enough to admit if he's wrong ( as long as all that fatty food has'nt given him a heart attack ! ) - just gotta lighten up & go with the occasional jokes.

Re: New here. What welder to buy. ?

To the best of mu knowledge (N)everlast are not sold in the UK but some of the Rtech models appear so similar bar the color they maybe out fo the same Chinese factory - if so could be worth calling Rtech - they have a solid name & warranty.

There's no harm in trying any of the forums - not been on them myself so can't vouch for their attitudes - I would say don't rule them out based on 1members dislikes here - I got no issue with him but he seems to clash heads with 1 or 2 here - probably not a personal thing - just hard to judge peopl...

Re: How hard to use is a 26 torch?

I have a trimline 26 & apart from the power cable is a bit thicker it does'nt bother me at all - I have a 9 for anything small / low amp or restricted access & would'nt use a 17 ever - can't see much point - it's mostly got the same power cable as a 9 & that will always melt in the torch...

There are probably more machinists here than you may think - not sure how many are still active but it's worth posting any questions you have here - although primarily a welding forum all aspects of metal work can be discussed freely without too much prejudice ! - I would think by the nature of most...

Come on guys - it used to be way more friendly here - I do however agree with Oscar on the appearance - I never had any cellulose rod run smooth & clean like that - be interested what his take on the rods is - I also agree with TTW - why on earth would a rod maker mis-label a rod on purpose ?

Re: Hole Saws on a Mill

Coping tubing is hard on any cutter especially doing stainless - anything over about2" I usually plasma cut but under that I do on the mill - usually use RotaBroach cutters as they are more rigid but have used hole saws - I never had any luck using a chuck & standard hole saw arbors as they...

I got a new(ish) Parweld 200 amp & an old Thermal arc 400 cc/cv - both been really solid welders - both run 6010 but only the 400 has independent controls for dig / hot start which is nice - the 200 is preset - mate got the SWP Stealth & he's been happy with it - not used it myself - depends...

Re: No arc from plasma cutter

Really glad you got it working - some folks are really bitchy about the Chinese stuff but for the money they are not that bad - kerf is usually narrow as the 40 amp tips only have a 0.9mm hole so using a straight edge guide helps - it's normal to have to have the tip just touching the work for it to...

Yes that is a generic PT31 torch - the consumables look fine - I meant there are 2common lengths of them & an oddity extra long 1 - you have what is generally referred to as the extended sort & appear to be a matching pair- with regard to touching I meant if you had a long electrode & sh...

Not heard of that exact model but every generic 40amp chinesium cutter I seen does not have air pressure limit switches - they will attempt to work with or without air - they will happily run on import 2> 2-1/2 hp 25 liter economy compressors with a PT31 torch & .9mm tip - the majority will requ...

All jokes aside I was of the understanding that a solid single conductor per given size was the best - stranding only coming into play with regards to flexibility in use / less likely to fatigue crack when exposed to vibration & the effect briefly mentioned previously if used on high frequencies.
