I use a Miller 625 Spectrum X-treme all the time. I cut a lot of steel and aluminum with it since we don't have a shear in the shop. They say it will do 5/8" plate although I haven't tried yet.

Not sure. The customer is putting the motor in himself. I haven't seen it.

I just got done with some modifications of a mini bike frame. The customer wanted a bigger fuel tank so he's removing the tank from the engine. I put a long tank under the seat made from aluminum.

What about underwater welding. I have a friend who is a commercial diver. If you live near the ocean or bay, it should keep you in the area.
