Re: Miller Dynasty 200 DX Problem's
Sounds like a good setup from the initial post ... These problems are always difficult to troubleshoot because of the variables. I have seen just about everything listed here cause issues ... And here are a few things to try: Assuming we have verified gas flow, coverage & proper torch/consumable...

Re: Aluminum Alloy for a gas tank
why oxy/acet? Is tig or mig not good for this? I would tig it ... 3003 w/ 1100 filler is optimum & 4043 will work too as Otto mentioned. Very common for all types of fuel tanks. Why Oxy-fuel? Well, oxy-fuel can produce very good results on aluminum with the proper technique ... I know of many d...

Like I said in my intro, I am pretty new to welding. Other than magnesium, what are exotic metals? What are they used for? Why am I so attracted to the idea of welding magnesium? Re: TIG Welding Aluminum on DC
Just to clarify a few things ... AC Tig with Argon is still the preferred way & typically what's recommended in the industry. As Welders, we just don't like to be told something "can't be done" ... So it's good conversation to tell stories about welding aluminum with DC & helium. J...

Re: Tungsten Electrodes for tig
Back in the day, we used only 2 brands of electrodes: Sylvania & Anchor Brand, which was actually private labeled Sylvania. About 10-12 years ago, Sylvania off-shored their tungsten electrodes & we have since moved away from them completely. Weldcraft has historically imported tungsten from ...

BAP - messages will remain in your outbox until the recipient opens them. So, they have been "sent" but have not been opened. It's a little quirky if you compare to an email program.

Can you find a serial number on it? It should start with 2 letters that will indicate the year it was built. Basically, start with A=0 and count up from there. In 2000, they used "L" as "0" because AA had already been used long ago. They also skipped the letter "I" beca...

Re: Question About Aluminum TIG Welding !!!
Those beads look pretty good! It's tough to eliminate all the oxides ... But if you're cleaning everything with stainless-like care, look at your filler metal. You could be introducing oxides that are on the filler. From there, check all gas connections & make sure there's no moisture anywhere ....

Re: extreme frustration
@countryboy ... I welded with an Everlast a few weeks ago & the balance was opposite of a Miller or Lincoln. I would turn the balance down - which will give you LESS cleaning/balling/electrode positive. In this case, it's more of a cleaning knob than a balance knob ... Think of it as less cleani...

The Eastwood line is decent. I've welded with the 200A Tig unit and it's not bad. I don't know how durable they are or what service is like - but the arc was very usable and the price is affordable. For me, I would consider as a home/garage welder ... Would have to evaluate further for everyday, pro...

Good to have you here mate :) Your favorit welding process? TIG or stick? My passion is certainly TIG - spent many years on Syncrowaves, Aerowaves, Dynasty/Maxstars & all the competitors. But, it's nice to whip a 6010 or run some pulsed MIG too :) But ... My trademark expression is that I like ...

I had a chance to see the compressor & guard in person this week ... it's a nice guard & the compressor is a little rough :D but it's doing the job for now. We have been comparing the S-6 TIG wire with S-2 & S-3 ... And it runs very well. The main thing we noticed was a more fluid puddle...

Re: Would like to see root pass with stick
I have mostly seen open root STICK done with 6010 or 6011. Probably, because they are 'fast freeze' rods with good digging action ... or the best of both worlds as they can fill a gap and dig through a tight root. I had always welded 7018 open root using a chill ring or backer bar - but more recentl...

Sounds like a cool project! What part of the world are you in? Have you ever been to Oshkosh for the fly-in? I spent many days in the demo booth welding coped tubing with Mig and Tig. EAA has some good articles in the archives about 4130 and recommended practices - and as Otto mentioned, filler meta...

Re: New Flow Meter???
Depending what I'm doing I usually run between 18 and 25. I of course have to buy my own gas so I save all I can. If you keep a shorter stickout whenever possible it helps you to be able to run a lower flow rate. That's a good tip ... I've seen short cups actually allow for a slight extension of th...
