Well, this is the story, I've been playing with Stick Welding in my workshop and "yes it is all your fault." So I have been having problems with porosity in my beads. I finally figured out that it was because of moisture in the rods. I searched High and Low for a Rod Oven but alas, no-one ...

Alright,

Well, come to find out that the rods are a bit past their use by date. They are full of moisture. I was suspect of this when during welding, I noticed bubbles forming around the electrode just above the arc

Help! Too much of a newbie to figure this out.

Hi Guys,

I am Arc welding some 1/4 mild steel here using a E6013 1/8 rod at 140 amps. When I chip off the slag, there is heavy porosity in the bead.

Bit of a newbie to old school stick welding, but having too much fun with it to quit.

What might be causing this?

Is it contamination or porosity?

My first inkling is that your regulator has gone south.

I use a cheapie $50 Auto Darker from Harbor Freight. It works, Does the Job... I have had 2 occassions after a long session where I have had spotty vision for about an hour after.
