Re: Setup for Gas Lens
I agree with 15-20 but be more on the higher side. You can always back off a bit. Also, agree that 3/32 tungsten would be better. Here's a link with a lot of info about TIG welding and settings, gas, tungsten, and so on. It will get you in the ballpark and then you can see what works best for you. h...

Re: Apprentice welder question
Over the years I've learned that the stick out varies from person to person. For me I like to have it out about 3/16 or so, but I've known welders that keep it right up close to the cup only less than a 1/16 and it welded beautiful for them. Strange I know... I've always gone with the thought of the...

Re: Tig welding stainless to carbon
To TIG weld Stainless to Carbon steel with no cracks you need to use Hastelloy W filler rod. It is a very stretchy metal and will bond to both metals with out cracking. Welds like a dream. The only bad thing is it is very expensive!

Re: Stainless problem. Need help
I thought that might be a TIG Finger, ha ha! I thought about asking if you did the good old Flick the Regulator to see if it was stuck. Glad you got things back up and running. Are you using a Gas Lens or just a standard cup set up??

Re: Stainless problem. Need help
Defiantly a gas issue. I agree with the last bit of a tank can get bad but you changed the bottles... Dumb question but did you check your lines and make sure it wasn't kinked or leaking any where? It may have pulled off a little at the torch and is sucking air. Do you have one of Jody's TIG Fingers...

Re: Apprentice welder question
With the set up I mean what are you using on the torch. Standard or Gas lens and what size cup? For Aluminum I like a #5 standard cup you don't need to ever use a gas lens (unless you're welding it on DC). If you can lay a bead with a different machine without these problems it might be something to...

Re: aluminum tig rod
I've always got good welds out of the Lincoln SuperGlaze. The biggest thing with Aluminum wire is when you look at it if it has gray spots on it... don't use it. I mean it will weld fine but the welds will come out more frosted and contaminated. It should be nice and clean right out of the box. It's...

Re: New to Tig. Tips?
Hey TannerRay, If you haven't already I'd say watch all of Jody's videos on TIG welding. They are very informative for a newbee to even the most experienced. You're always learning in welding. Biggest thing I can say about TIG welding is learn to feed the wire smooth and fast. The inch worm tech is ...

Re: gas lense
Hey Guys, I'm new to this forum, really any forums, but thought it would be fun to chat about welding. The Pyrex cup should have came with a larger insulator. In my book if you're welding on DC you should have a Gas Lens. Just works so much better. The Pyrex ones are nice and have their place but ju...
