Re: Miller Diversion 165 TIG Welder

Ok, i've been using my diversion 165, and so far its been a great little machine. I started regretting it before i ever used it because i didnt think it would do too much, but i did more than what i had expected. it said that 3/16" was the thickest it would weld, but i was able to do some 1/4&q...

Re: Input power for a Diversion 165

Rick and Martin, thanks for the info guys. i was able to find a few 230 v single phase drops at work and got it going. however in some parts of the plant there arent any. me and a buddy at work had discussed getting a 460 to 220 step down transformer at work, and putting it in a small electrical box...

Input power for a Diversion 165

Yesterday i bought a Miller Diversion 165. It has i guess a standerd 230 V AC male plug on the cord. At the plant i work at, we mainly have 480 Volt, 3 Phase twist lock plugs, and the other plugs are twist lock also. Do any of you men know if there is any type of voltage step down devices i could us...

Re: Miller Diversion 165 TIG Welder

I just bought one of the diversion 165's yesterday. i haven't hooked it up yet, but im going to tonight. At Airgas, they had some aluminum and stainless they had welded with one and it looked real good. the machine is easy to tote around and the tig torch has a neat ball swivel at the bottem of it t...

Re: Looking for help in identifying electrode material

The only rod i've ever used that the slag peels off in one big piece is a 7024 jet rod. They are preety big rods and the info i read about them said they needed to be ran between 100-150 amps. Also i've been told they're for the flat position only. they laid a wide bead and the weld looked great. th...

Re: WELD ALUMINUM?

This is just my opinion, but i would go with TIG welding it. I don't weld alot of aluminum, but at the plant i work at we use 4043 aluminum filler rods. as far as using a MIG welder, i couldnt tell you how good it is. i've never seen anyone MIG aluminum but i guess if you can do it right it does fin...

3G plate test on 304 stainless steel

tonight i took a vertical up test on 1/4" stainless steel plate. i had a 37 +/- 5 degree bevel, a 3/32" gap, and a 1/8" land on it. i had my amperage on DCEN, my gas at 15 CFH, and the amperage was 100 for the root, hot, fillers, and cap. i was able to get complete penetration, but th...

steamlines

Where i work, most things aren't done legal. me and about two more maintenance men have to repair steamlimes constantly because the company we work for is cheap and dont want to pay for a licensed contractor to come in and weld the pipes up. so here lately they are getting worried about osha finding...

Re: Tips for rookie arc welder

i just finished a little ten day program at a local college in arc welding and got AWS certified in vertical and overhead fillet and groove welds. i didnt know til my teacher told me that on DC+ (reverse polarity) you will get deeper penetration. the metal you are welding will be hotter than your el...

Re: Tungsten Tip - Angle

im far from being an expert or pro, but i've noticed when i make the angle on the tip of my tungsten around 2 times the electrode diameter and keep a real sharp point, then its easier to keep a good arc, clean weld, and it seems to make a good controlled weld bead that keeps a good weld pool

stick welding vertical using 3/32 308 rods

most of the machines where i work are made of stainless steel. when me and the other maintenance guys have to modify the equipement on the floor, our lincoln idealarc 250 is the easiest to get out there. i set the amperage on about 75, and the polarity is on DCEP. i am welding a vertical fillet weld...
