Re: Steel tig weld eval needed
Ak. The rest of the weld is the same color but colder to the right. The weld started as a small mound then flat then slightly concaved. A couple questions for you though: 1) should a mild steel weld be slightly concaved? 2) what should the back of the weld look like to be sure you have good penetrat...

Have to agree with Weldin Mike. You won't be able to repair those letters if you mess up.

Re: Tungsten Sharpeners
I grind mine on a bench grinder. I have a wheel for aluminum tungstons and a wheel for steel tungstons. I just spin the tungston with my fingers. I haven't had any issues. I am a new tig welder though but even my aluminum welds look good with this technique.

Steel tig weld eval needed
This is a portion of a 1/8" steel butt weld. This is as shiny as I can get it to look. It is hot rolled steel. I ground it clean and shiny on both sides. I made sure my table and grounding area were freshly ground. I tried the argon on 15 and 20. I have pre and post flow. (Wish I had the settin...

Expertise help needed
I welded this open outside corner joint. It is 6061 Aluminum. I was very happy with it as it is only the third open outside corner weld I've ever done. I decided to flip it over after it was cool and bend it back against the weld. I only used my hands and the weld broke. It looks as if the weld brok...

Re: What is your favorite Welding Hood?
My hood is the Miller 9400i. It was pricey but my wife got it, a tips and tricks t-shirt and a tig finger for my birthday. :D I wear it for hours and it doesn't bother me but i'm use to wearing a fire helmet for hours. I like that I can weld then lift the shade lense and grind with the grinding shie...

Galvanized Project
Just ran into one of my firefighter buds and he has a little piece of metal about 5 inches long with part of a c clamp welded onto it. Wish I had a pic. He wants me to make more. He ordered galvanized parts. ugh! I searched galvanized steel on the forum and found out to wear a N-95 mask. Also to use...

Re: Filler rod selection help
I was told the copper coated rods put off hazardous fumes. If this is not true, it would be cheaper to get copper coated rods. I am a beginning TIG welder and would appreciate any help. Is a respirator needed with the copper rods or am I good to go without? Thanks for all the help!

Filler rod selection help
Looking to purchase filler rods. Looking online before I resort to going to a welding store and paying to much. My question is what brands should I be looking for? I found filler rods of course but I can not find what grade of rod they are on any websites. Looking for E 70S-2 grade #4 or higher. No ...

Everlast 250EX Support?
Looking at buying the Everlast 250EX. Everything sounds good about the machine but I am very worried about if support if I need the machine fixed. Has anyone ever dealt with Everlast and had to have repairs done ( not repairs by purchaser but by Everlast)? Their website does not show dealer stores, ...
