Re: Filler wire- steel

Dave, I was using the same setup I was using the other day. I am welding 2"steel tubing 1/4 wall. I was doing great with my amps at 230. 100% argon. 20 on the regulator. 5/32 electrode sharpen to a point ( I bought the 5/32 when I bought 1/16 and 3/32 tungstons when I was outfitting my shop and...

Filler wire- steel

For some reason my Tig welder will not provide a stable arc. The only differences between now and the last time I welded with it are: 1) My new welding table is on red plastic/rubber wheels. I clamped to my table and the piece being welded, no change. 2) My filler rods got some rust on them from con...

Re: Beveling and Amperage

Thanks for the advice. I should of explained like this. Take a piece of hot rolled steel tubing and put the end against the side of another piece. That blunt end against the curved side wall is the two side joints I have to weld together. There is a small gap. I mittered the two pieces to make a 60 ...

Re: Burn through

First I really appreciate your help! I was Tig welding aluminum and steel flat bar making diffrent kinds of joints for practice. It looked like I was running good beads. I am just learning. Maybe 5 hours seat time. I welded an aluminum outside corner joint and was very happy with the look. Then I de...

Re: TIG welder recommendation?

I have the Everlast 250 EX and I have been welding 1/8 steel and aluminum. I am now working on a .250 wall steel tubing project. $1650.00 The welder is working better then the weldor. Jody gave it a good review you can see the video here. Everlast also has a Power Arc 280 STH DC only 280 amp m...

Re: Beveling and Amperage

If a single pass will make a solid strong weld that would be great. I'm looking for the most efficient but strong route. I have 250 amps available so if its possible I would like to use all the power. I have two pieces of the tubing coming together at a 60 degree angle. I have a inside filet j...

Burn through

How much burn through would be enough to show good penetration / proper one pass heat? Should the backside just start showing signs of heat (ex small flat spots ) or 1/16 size mounds or more?

Beveling and Amperage

I have a project that I'm going to bevel and Tig weld some outside corner joints. This is hot rolled steel 2"x2"x .250 wall. Going to miter the corners. Since the corners are beveled do I run the amperage at .125 wall amperage or still at .250 amperage? Also, if I didn't bevel the corner, ...

Welding Table Construction

I found a 1/2 thick steel plate for my welding table top. 4x4. If I had a machine shop drill holes into it similar to a stronghand table would the stronghand clamps and other fixtures work? I believe their tables are 5/8 thick. Thanks!!
