Hi Otto
Thanks for your input, I appreciate and respect your advice and knowledge. So was hoping you were going to weigh in on this.
Oh by the way, I really should end my posts with my name seeing as I'm not a real regular on here.

Re: 5005 H34 Alloy question
Haha, I thought my descriptions of a thousand words was worth one pic haha. Hi Otto, yea sometimes the red tape can be a pain in the ass, I don't have the CAD on the home computer so MS paint to the rescue. The black is heavyish C channel ( 6"x2-1/2") in 6082, the red is the 5005 H34 which...

5005 H34 Alloy question
Hi Guys We are about to start the next project stage and have hit a bit of a wall. We have searched for a while but have not had any success so to speak with finding out any real life data on this material. We are welding two sections of 6082 together but are using some plate in between the two as l...

Re: Splitting tungsten
Hi Mate I find I get this problem it the initial ignition ark is too high. HF and high amps tend to split tungsten's. Try setting your machine so that your initial ark amps fairly low, then have it upslope over about 3 seconds. This should stop the splitting. Why dose no one over there use Zirconiat...

I've blown a few leads now myself on my WP20 torch, I had a aftermarket cooler though. First time I'd forgotten to turn the cooler on, second time was welding long seam welds on boat hulls. After three days of welding in 40+ deg C heat the outlet line was ballooning. Next day it went off like a flat...

Hi Mike I get alot of my gear from up here but consumables like helmet lens, tips, collets, cables ect ect, I could get them at a fraction of the cost even including freight. There is a thing up here people refer to as "Darwin Tax" where everything is 30% more expensive just because of our...

Well that's just a real shame! Great store and great service, not sure where I'm gonna get my supplies from now. Any suggestions?
I tried a google search but it didn't really turn up any information.

Hi Mick The miller unit have the same waist strap as the speedglas, but it just has the additional sholder harness for when your standing up all day. Like you said if your crawling around the waist harness needs to be tight. I actuall found that I have started removing the PAPR altogether and just d...

Re: Aluminum Oil Pans
I use a solution of "Tanker Cleaner", it has 10% hydrofluric acid in it so you gotta be real careful with it. I water it down a little, probably20% into a tub then immurse it into it and let it soke for a while (I would always heavily degrease auto parts before this stage). I pull it out, ...

Re: Fresh air welding helmates
Yea the titanium model dose, I'm a bit old school and like to have a seperate shield/glasses for grinding so I didn't look into this feature much. Also I have found that with the speedglas flip up that you find yourself doing the nod to lower the flip up front, not a good habbit to get into. The spe...

Re: how to price a tig job
Ring around to all that will be your competitors, be suttle and find out what they charge. Compare your work against theirs and charge suitably. Being that your new you may want to undercharge a small amount to try and get the customers coming through the door, and make up with quantity first. Just ...

Re: how to price a tig job
Then charge for four hours.............. Maybe I'm not getting the gist of what your asking. Your mad to quote a firm price on jobs like that, as they can turn pear shaped very quickly and then your out of pocket the time you spent on it. For repair work on old things I give a rough quote then make ...

Re: Welding small stuff
You can get small propane torches that take replacement cylinders from most hardware stores. Use this with brazing, it's what the plumbers use to seal steel/copper piping on construction sites. Or you could use it with solder.

Re: TIG grounding concept for small parts. What do you think
Nice, kinda like a home made version of a positioning clamp. Dose the same job. Dose your earth clamp connect to the rod under the base?. If it is just connected to the main base I would imagine that the bearings would eventually start arcing out.

Re: Fresh air welding helmates
Well I have purchased a Miller vortex system, they were on special for $1100 so after having a bit a look at it I couldn't say no. They seem about the same as the speedglas as far as size and componentry. The harness is alot better than the speedglas helmate, the guy working for me has the speedglas...

Re: EconoTIG Torch Switch ???
Some machines require you to set the max usable amps for the job via the machine (the torch switch needs to be set at max). This allows you to put the switch all the way to max and not blow you job away. Try adjusting at the machine whilst the switch is connected. Other wise they have given you a sw...

Re: Proper Adjustment Of Flowmeter ???
The ball type flow meter is a little more accurate, if in doubt go by a flow gauge that fits over the cup at the torch. This will give you the actual flow at the torch, and it's great for diagnosing faults as well.

Thanks mike. I've only just recently seen the Miller units. I wonder if I could just purchase the pack and hose/helmet piece off of the miller, I am currently running a Viper helmet. However they must have spent all there R&D on the lens and the head harness was crap, it was so bad that I pulled...

Re: gas lense
Not sure where you'd fit one in, surely once it's defused it's defused. I think that the WP20 torches struggle with gas flow to start with due to their size, I would not be adding extra restrictions. On another note, let us know how it goes. Be real keen to hear your opinion on them, I know Jody did...
