5 inch pipe with 2 inch thick walls. Root and hot pass with tig then fill and cap with 7018. Sounds like their making it easy for you...no key hole.. Surprised their not using 9018 though.

Most of the time if you can pass the welding test they have for you a certain doesn't matter. I've tested many guys just out of school with all the right certs and can't hire them because they can't pass an overhead coupon.

In the instructional videos I see on here they always run their root then they run a weave. They don't use run off tabs either. In my line of work we weld anything from 1/16 to 10 inch thick metal in all positions overhead, vertical, horizontal with all types of wire .035, .045, .052, 1/16. Flux cor...
