Re: help! nasty aluminum weld

Did you clean the metal meticulously? Also, maybe back off the argon some. I'm a hobbiest so don't take any of that as gospel!

luckily the guys at Speedy Metals never fail me. They replaced it with a flat piece no questions asked. I live close to them so its easy to run for something, and morning orders are always ready before noon.

another welding table Please offer suggestions / comments

I am working on a welding table. I am using a simple design with 1/2 inch steel top 30 x 60, frame and legs of 3/16 thick 2 inch square tube. I am going for a 3 inch over hang. I have a mig 135 from northern, but since im working with 3/16 material i thought it best to use the miller diversion tig. ...

Re: What do you like most about welding, What do hate most?

What I like is going out to the shop ( my wife calls it the garage) and firing up the miller and making something artsy or functional or just trying something new. I don't like the day job interfering with my shop work and 2: not having a rediculus fab shop with all the trimmings! In due time amigos...

tip from nooby 2.0

As a seasoned nooby (what is that?) I would like to post an observation: I spent my first year playing with my mig 135 from Northern. I did alot of projects with it and love welding. I then purchased a Miller 165 Diversion TIG welder. OMG im love it and my addiction to welding has only gotten more i...

Re: Frosty looking weld quality?

I'm pretty new to aluminum myself but are you preheating? My arc will dance a lot at first if I don't preheat. Also remember they say you need at least one amp per 1/1000 th thickness, that's 250 amps if my math is correct

Re: New Here-What MIG machines are you guys running?

I'm a nooby too. I started my hobby welding world with northern mig 135. I have done a lot of projects with it. Now I bought a miller diversion 165 tig. Love it! Looking forward to a miller mig in the future. I love both types of welding

Mig welder feed issue

I have a northern mig 135 (my first welder), has always worked fine but lately it has been acting up, now It won't feed wire but it makes the normal loud click when I hit the button, but the rollers don't roll. Wire feeds manually fine. Any ideas?
