i use it all the time on build up on castings. obviously it has to be really clean for this to work. i find a weave pattern works best.

Re: Argon Tank Empty?
im sure each place may treat the situation differently. my air gas had the tank tested and found contamination and gave me a free tank. i had two previous tanks that were bad but didnt figure it out untill the 3rd. they gave me a free tank because of it. that was quite a while back. then about a mon...

dont rule out bad gas... i have got 4 bad tanks now... very frustrating... seem to work fine at first untill you get to a certain pressure then the crap hits the fan.

with alumina nozzels i dont notice much difference. gas lens i do... ck has a much higher quality and i do notice a difference in gas coverage with the ck gas lens. another thing i really like is ck wedge collet. holds tungsten with out having to tighten the back cap so much. they seem to be made of...

Re: Colour of bronze rod
i weld bronze, alumibronze, and brass where i work. there is no real way to tell for sure if the metal is brass or bronze by appearance, because there are so many different alloys. look for jody's video on how to weld brass. this will help show u some details on how it reacts. what we do where i wor...

Re: Looking to buy a TIG welder, recommendations please
i think, when choosing a welder you have to decide if your doing thicker aluminum on a normal basis. thats going to be key on how big you need to be as far as amps. i think water cooling is a great way to go if you can swing the extra expence. welding aluminum, and even other metals that take a long...

that is exactly right dave! by adding magnesium, they were able to create that. its much stronger then 4043, and will handle hi temps for extended time better then using 5356. shrink crack is great reduced (so they say). several areas i see this will be great for is welding 6061. another is welding ...

the E3 dont really cost any more then the others. my local airgas has them in stock. the tip of the point balls nice but dont melt back to a big "tootsy pop"! i have had good luck with arczone sky blue as well. not quite as good as E3, but still good.

thoriated wouldnt ball for me... it just go irregular and jagged. i agree ajlskater1, i dont go above 200hz. 150 is mostly the "tightest" i run the freqency unless im welding a die or something where i just need to put a very pin point dot on something...

for me its more of a comfortable pedal. they way it feels, how low it is. it feels really natual... not like the big old miller pedal on top a metal box.

he uses a dynasty 350 wich is pretty much the same as the dynasty 700 i use everyday at work. the machines are amazing in all aspects on AC.... i think they are one of the best machines out there. if you know how to set it to do what you want, anything is practically achievable. i know filler wire, ...

i tryed several types of tungsten for aluminum. my favorite tungsten is Radnor E3. purple band. it balls on the point, not to one side or get erratic surface. i have an inverter not sure how it would work on transformer machine. it also works great on DC.

Re: Tig Welding 464 Naval Brass
yes use AC... i would not suggest a gas lens more then likely you will ruin it from splatter. use a standard collet body and cup. i use alumibronze filler. it seems to match color wise to me. the trick to getting it to weld is to use just enough heat to melt the rod, if u see zinc and such sweating ...

if you do alot of this type of welding and at long periods, i highly recomend the weldcraft 18 supercool torch. i use this very torch where i work. i weld everyday at 300 to 400 amps. i cant say enough on how well this torch holds up. the whole torch head is water cooled so it never gets more the wa...
