Re: Welding v band to cast turbo ????
i have never done this, but i have had luck welding cast iron with stainless 309. the stainless wire should take to the steel in the v band no prob. just a suggestion... it might work for you.

Re: w/ gas lenses do you need a diff white insulator
i have a 20 water cooled torch and i can use a standard insulator with the standard gas lens and gas lens cup. there is a smaller inside diameter that is used for the standard cup, and the larger gas lens cup fits down on the outside of the insulator. however, if you do want the large diameter gas l...

lets face it, the dynasty is probably the 350/700 best new machine money can buy. the ability to adjust on the AC side is amazing. watch some of the videos on millers site with chris razor... but look how much money you have to spend to get even the dynasty 350. for most of us working guys/gals, its...

i tryed to get helium locally and they tell its not going to happen. they claim there is a helium shortage. weather that is true or not, i cant get any. they claim for 2013 for sure and maybe longer.

Re: Judging correct heat with silicon bronze
i have tig brazed with silicon bronze, i would agree with your descripion. i use the least amount of heat to get it to take. the puddle can be some what sluggish and you might have to use some movement of the torch. good luck with your project!

Re: 1 5/8 dom round tube for roll cage...
this is mild steel, not moly so i know its mild steel. fit up on a roll cage is important wide gaps are not acceptable in my book. heres another good question. lets say in a hard to reach place you opt to use a 1/16 rod, and weld real slow. is this going to be a bad thing of more heat being put in? ...

i might be wrong, but 5356 might not be the best choice for filler. on a alcotec filler rod chart, 5356 is NOT supposed to be used for temps over 150 degrees F. i think 5554 might be the best choice. it shows on some alloy combo's a temperature rating. but... on 500 series alloys, wich should be low...

sometimes, when the weld path has different obstructions and such the argon dont flow nice to the areas causing it to not clean as much. you didnt say what size cup you were using, but in my experience i find larger cups work better. i like 7 and 8 cups for aluminum. i get better coverage and better...

Re: sand blast before tig?
i have welded sand blasted aluminum. it was not anodized, but the sand gets jammed in the pores of the metal. this leaves dirt floating in the weld puddle. i would steel shot, or bead blast. i have welded aluminum that was shot blasted with no problems. just my experience.

i really liked the "metals and how to weld them" series. i would like to see you do a video on copper alloys. explain the differences in alloys, what de-oxidized means. maybe cover bronze, alumibronze, silicon bronze, and alumibronze. maybe weld a few examples. then explain and show tig br...
