Re: New with a filtration question

He's referring to hexavalent chromium. That what's led me to believe he means stainless steel
But, until he comes back, we'll never know.

Re: New with a filtration question

That seems silly by 3m to not supply the full range of filters. However, I see that the adflo unit is interchangeable with the versa flow hood, so you can get an adflo and swap it for your current one, therefore allowing you to use the full range of filters. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3M-Versaflo-S...

Re: Mig/Flux Core

I was thinking you might be able to find one cheap at a clearing sale. One with a machine that's broken or too big to be practical anymore. But, I don't really know.

Re: Mig/Flux Core

You can get a remote wire feeder and hot wire it to fit your welder. The spool and gun are in a stand alone cabinet connected by 4 or 5 metre cables.

STT WELD DEPOSIT VS NORMAL MIG

Hi all. A friend of mine has a question about welding mig root runs with the proprietary processes such as Lincoln STT and what not. Does the weld produced by these fancy pants settings differ in any way from a perfect weld made by a competent operator with a normal mig? Or do they only provide a sa...

Re: what is going on with this welder?

Very few things are worth a 6 hour drive. Especially for a stick welder. Keep looking within 25 miles of your location, you'll find something.

That's basically what is happening.

Apparently it happens in remote communities where there is no booze available (dry area) and by people who have nothing left except to drink.

Re: 90% isopropyl alcohol

I got told that if you burn bread absolutely charcoal black in a toaster, it makes an effective filter to remove the undrinkable stuff from the methylated spirits. Leaving only the ethanol. Allowing you to get off your chops for cheap.

Seems they are still in business today. From Ireland. Not sure if the modern company would have information about the old model, but here you go anyway.

Re: Tungsten Question

Hi and welcome.

This could be as simple as too short of a post flow of argon. It should be about 10 seconds. Or it could be some moisture in the gas. To eliminate this, try another gas cylinder. You can also make an in line moisture trap with a desiccant material.

Re: Intr

Welcome. Don't forget that stick welding can do bigger stuff at the comparable amps than mig. Eg, 140 amps on the stick will weld almost anything, but a 140 amp mig will struggle at anything thicker than 4 or 5mm.

Re: 90% isopropyl alcohol

I've also heard that acetone is quite nasty. I believe that people think that if something evaporates, that it's somehow safe.

Side note, in Australia, we call denatured alcohol, methylated spirits.

Re: Tips and tricks working with stainless?

Stainless steel destroys cutting tools because the heat builds up locally and can't get away. It traps heat more than mild steel. Use an inox labeled 1mm cutting disc to cut. If you have to drill, use a good quality drilling lube and a slow speed with constant firm pressure.

Thanks fellas. It does, in fact answer my questions. I got lost in the transition from my previous project on hardened steels with no post welding heat treatment to this one with a heat treatment at the end.

Thank you for your time. All the best, mick

Re: Who knows about Chromolly? 4130

Thanks for your detailed responses to my questions. I am a welder, have been for a long time. But I just have to go weld this. No extra technical knowledge required, as long as I do what they say. What I refer to as quenching an tempered steels are the kind of low alloy steels that are used in minin...

Just out of interest, that machine has an adapter to make a euro adapter mig gun fit a proprietary socket. That's why the gun sticks out so far.

Re: Who knows about Chromolly? 4130

So, underbead cracking isn't as big an issue with 4130 as it is with other low alloy steels? Like you quenched and tempered steels?
