Re: Hello, Safety Guy needing advice.

I if it's from slipping when tacking, I'd suggest a better fixture and training your welders to hold the gun with both hands on the handle area. If it's from while cleaning the mig shroud, I find that leaving the ball on the end of the wire when cleaning makes if safer to clean. The snip just as you...

I don't know if it's possible to make the welder into a generator welder, but no reason why you couldn't make a crate that permits you to hold a petrol generator that has the welder right next to it and simply plug it into the generator.

Re: I need opinions on a repair...

Hi there, heat it up to the point where you melt the brazing. It'll either fall apart or be able to pulled apart. Then shape the left side over brazing material and re do in the correct position. You can use a little jig to hold it in place if necessary. I've seen people pull the drop outs out of bi...

Nothing more dangerous than a person who likes to type but has a slightly skewed sense of the world. Anyone know if there was any other people involved that may have deleted posts? Some of it seems like he was fighting himself.

If 6 people have a different opinion, one is right. Just hope you can get the outcome to be the correct one rather that the opinion of the biggest mouth in the group.

Re: Question about posting pictures

The world wide welders is a very good page but it's for high end pipe welders. Or it was last time I checked. I don't think you will find many people who use the same name on both a forum and Facebook. I can add you if you like, but you have to be a Facebook member. (evil, I know) if you sign up, pm...

Re: Welding Parts Under Pressure to Prevent Warp?

What you are talking about is call pre setting. It's an extremely common way of distortion control. You don't need a press, a solid table, some decent clamps and a packer will do the trick. Place the packer under your job and clamp down each end to form the bend away from the welding. Then weld. You...

Re: Question about posting pictures

Sideways drinking is an Australian past time. You won't be able to find the Facebook page, it's been made secret. This was due to sheer numbers of people and spammers joining. People can ad their friends, but Facebook searches won't find it. Probably a good thing, because Facebook really is evil.

Re: Start of small shop ventilation project

Very good work. Don't forget that at source extraction is the best option. Because if you have an overhead fan or sucker, it still has to pass your breath hole on the way. A flexible duct to bring the suction down to the arc area is the best idea. Keep up the good work

I haven't got a problem with the quality of the pictures. I can post any pictures I want off my phone. Once upon a time, you couldn't post phone pictures because even the smallest resolution was too big. That's why I started the welders around the world Facebook page. Re: keeping overhead lighting from penetrating hood

Yep most companies sell those for their hoods and a lot for generic style. Most use a combination of stick on Velcro and elastic loops around the nuts on the side of helmet. I've also made my own out of an old welding hood. What kind of shield do you have?

Re: Fcaw-g vs fcaw-s vs smaw

As jody once said, the main difference between stick and mig is that with stick, you have a safety net. It has to be a certain amount of amps to run the rod, it won't work at all well without that amount of heat. The resulting bead will have reasonable fusion and hopefully penetration. With mig, the...

With those small machines, stick will give you more bang for your buck. You can can weld almost anything with a 3.25 mm or 4mm rod, where as the mig will be limited to about 6mm

Re: Removing zinc from hard to grind parts?

I have never attempted to remove gal from anything except hot dipped parts that have very thick coating. It farts and pops but it stays joined. Unless it's tig, which do not enjoy gal, it works. Just saying not to stress too much. Just protect your breathing and go for it.
