Re: Difference in Mig gases
We use tri mix ar, co2, o2 with a 500 amp mig and 1.2mm s4 wire. Man you could get it spraying like a beast. No spatter to be seen anywhere.

No, because if you get an interruption between the table and the job, such as mess or tooling, you'll end up with stray arc marks on your job where the ground path tries to jump the gap

Re: Fixing a bad stick weld
When grinding out a slag hole, try and get the metal back to close to base metal, maybe scratching some of the slag out. Then weld over it with higher amps. If you just try to weld over it, the shape of the hole will be too tight to burn the slag out

All things said and done, the amount of gas that that would mak would be quite low I'd expect. Just avoid setting the entire thing on fire in your enclosed garage and then camping out in there.

We have done macros with the process for our wpqs. That said it does not look the same as conventional, but doesn't mean you aren't getting penetration in a different way.

Josh is on the money. But you should know that the isocyanates are trapped in the insulation. As long as you scrape it all off before heating you will be able OK. It's released when they are burnt. Same as in two pack paints

Re: Pulsed MIG
We use pulse mig at work. It's a specific set up (means to an end) but the set up seems to lack the punch one might expect. That could well be the crappy wire we use. I know you can't do a quick filler run with the settings we use as you can do with conventional mig.

Re: Can’t wear pancake in school
I've only heard the stories, I don't work they. Can't vouch for numbers and names but I know they can't have new Zealanders working there, due to workplace safety. Also if you have seen die hard with a vengeance, you can understand about the broom handle hitting the floor. I'm sure many industrial a...

At my company's munitions facility, you are not allowed to walk on the grass and then into the facility because chemical reaction between grass and the explosives is possible. They also only have sheep to mow the grass because no petrol is allowed on site. Rules are rules... Seem strange but all com...

Re: porosity on starts and stops
Watch jodys videos on stick welding. He talks about "lighting up" ahead of the weld start and quickly going back to the actual weld start. That's how you avoid starting porosity. Sometimes you need to run over 50mm before it lights up neatly, depending on the brand of rod.

What's the name of this thing/system?
Anyone know the name of these things? They are a pivoting locking device with a spiral on it to lock down against a fixed pin. For example locking a cover down on a flange or similar. It's not super critical to know, but it's got the better of me now and I can't think of what to google to get a resu...

Re: 2 bad machines in a row
I haven't heard anything bad about the razor weld machines. For it to work at the shop and then not at home sounds suspicious. I'd call in an electrician to go over the set up. The angry pixies might be a little too angry.

I have no idea which one is best, but I absolutely know you must be careful where the exhaust fumes go. Many a retched soul has been dispatched to the promise land by exhaust in an enclosed space. Good luck with it.
