Re: Which welder to choose

Migatronic makes awesome migwelders, thats what they are known for. Their tig I have only seen on demo, didnt let us try it. Never heard anybody with first hand experience either. Thank you for Your advice! I know Migatronic has a very strong name in the MIG-department, and I'm considering changing...

Re: Which welder to choose

That is what I was trying to highlight in my initial post. Yes, I read your post and seen your preference of wanting local. I also seen your country of origin being Norway. I was saying if you are really wanting a Miller this is the company that is listed on Miller's website. By the way, how far aw...

Also willing to come to your shop and help work up and save programs for your most common settings used in your shop including remote monitoring and trend logging etc. How good is that? Might make it all worthwhile. Thank you for that piece of information! I wasn't aware of that. That will change t...

Re: Which welder to choose

Their power sources do have huge and complicated layered menu controls that will take a long time to master if you choose to use all the functions. It probably makes coffee too . Yes I know! That is actually one of the Kemppi “turnoffs”. I’ve downloaded the manual for the machine, and I have ...

Which welder to choose

Hi, I'm in the process of upgrading my present TIG-welder to a Professional machine. I have tried to assess various machines through online reviews, forums and other places I could find information. My only "restriction" is what's available to me in my country. Through e-commerce sites I'm...

Re: Aluminium oxidation layer

Sure, An "a" in Norwegian is pronounced like the "a" in "ask" ( if you pronounce 'ask' like the English do ) An "å" means you pronounce it like the "a" in "st a ll" or " a ll". So my name is pronounced "Stall - eh" where...

Re: Aluminium oxidation layer

You mentioned getting He when your Ar is empty; Why wait? When you've used a quarter to half your Ar, ask them to top it up with He. They may be more willing to do this than attempt to make a custom formula. They may lack the equipment to precisely meter a mix, possibly buying Ar/CO2 premixed or su...

Umm, are we talkin about the same US? :p In the US, they will ship the CGC out to mexico/india/taiwan to have it filled, then ship it back to the US. :):):) God bless America. That is true for most western world countries. In the years leading up to WW2 and the years after, little Norway had the wo...

Re: Aluminium oxidation layer

Thats crap. Where are you going? A good all purpose mix is 75ar/25he. That gives you good arc start characteristics, and the hotter arc you want. You can go all the way to like 20ar/80he I think before the arc gets real hard to start. I live in a small town in the northern part of Norway ( here) , ...

PLEASE don't attempt to TIG w/ hydrogen. I think someone has been feeding you bullshit. This can ONLY be done... Don't worry, I think you misread my post. ;) I have absolutely no intention of trying hydrogen! The reason I mentioned it was to emphasize my lack of knowledge with regard to gas-mixture...

Hi Cjfabs! I haven't been around for a while. Partly because I forgot my password and was unable to log in (finally got it reset  ), and mostly because I'm busy studying for 3 upcoming exams in a couple of weeks :geek: (I'm getting an MBA). Like Steve said, I'm finished with the before mentione...

Re: Why isn't this forum more active?

It's hard to say why some boards succeeds more than others. I'm the new guy here, as I've only posted a few times and more to the point...I'm not a professional (Welder that is). However, I'm no spring chicken (47) and have been around boards for a long time, seeking out advice where no one in my ne...

Re: Aluminium oxidation layer

Yes we have common language roots in the Indo-European language that was later divided into North and West Germanic (East Germanic equals Gothic which is a dead branch). Our language mixed again later when Vikings conquered and colonized England in the 8th and 9th centuries. All place names ending i...

Re: Aluminium oxidation layer

I don't think I'm able back purge the weld, only have one gas bottle and that's connected to the TIG-machine. If I could though, I think I would have problems with the gas escape path as the tube is closed. I would have to make two new holes (one to introduce the gas, and one for it to escape throug...

Re: Aluminium oxidation layer

I know, that's the most common mistake english speaking people do when they try to learn Norwegian. I guess there are no words in English that ends with a pronounced 'e', so it feels very "unnatural" for you to actively pronounce it. In Norwegian, all (male) nouns ends with " en "...

Re: Aluminium oxidation layer

Can you give me a reasonable phonetic spelling to pronounce that (sveisetralle)? I love to learn new words! I'm guessing this one sounds a lot like it's English spelling. That's almost as hard as TIG-welding aluminum for the first time! I don't know how to use the phonetic alphabet, but I'll ...

Re: Aluminium oxidation layer

Unfortunately, I have little control over AC frequency on this model. It has built-in HF start, but apart from that it doesn't seem to have any controls for AC manipulation (if you zoom in on the picture I attached in my first post, you can see the various controls available to me). The only knob I ...

That made a big difference. I was finally able to make a successful T-joint. Encouraged by my success, I went and bought a cheap gas torch to make pre-heating easier. I'm still not proficient by a long shot, though some of the beads looks fairly OK. The rest are more "functional" than eye ...

English is a second language to you? I don't believe it. You write English far better than most speak it. Thank you, I'll take that as a compliment. Aluminium oxidation layer

Hi all! All new to the forum, so I should warn you that my native language is Norwegian (which potentially could cause misspellings and unintentional poor orthography). Now, to the point: I'm a happy amateur welder. I've welded MIG for quite a few years and feel I've got to grips on that, but after ...
