Re: How about this one?

Yeah, we've let him know a couple of times, and he has a good laugh with us. Don't get me wrong, his welds look great. I mean after 20 years of welding pipe and 15 years of teaching welding he is most definately an old hand.

How about this one?

This one is for all my fellow greenhorns who are still in a welding class. The instructor in my class is a great guy, accomplished welder, and a really good teacher. But, he has extremely high standards and will nit-pick you to death on even your best welds. So, one day I asked him to show me a vert...

Re: Weave over beads...

In my class we weave the fill pass on groove welds slightly, but the cap passes are always stringer(according to our instructor). That said, I've had a few old hands tell me that if you have a spot where the puddle is not filling in where you need it to, just nudge it over slightly and get it to fil...

Re: F%&*ING POROSITY!!!

Well, I didn't get to try it today. I got moved onto 7018 filler and cap on schedule 40 for a different/better job that just opened up. Thank you for the feedback anyway, Cody, Much appreciated. If I get to try that weld again I will bump this thread with an update.

F%&*ING POROSITY!!!

I will try to be very thorough laying this all out. I am a welding student. I am learning a very specific process for a job at a local shipyard. I am using the following: 6" schedule 80 carbon steel pipe, 6g position, 6010 root pass, 777 0.045 cv wire(flux core) filler and cap, 75%/25% Ar/CO2 s...

Re: Mig puddle observation obscurity

Doing some multi process pipe welding in school right now. 6010 root with fcaw caps and fill. Seeing the puddle is definately a challenge. I tend to use the "head-lean" method and it is working pretty well. The issue I am having is the tie in at the "6 o'clock crossroads". If I g...
