Re: Should I look to work as a welder part time?

howdy- I do the part time thing. I have another career that affords me the scheduling luxury of not having to torpedo the wage I earn doing it. I DO NOT undercut pricing. My rate is my rate, not that much less than another guy. I think that is bad biz-might need their hand one day... I have a decent...

Re: Aluminum welding troubles with bobcat/spoolgun

maybe you're right, just needed more angle (or cowbell!lol)-I thought it was good enough, but I know I can see myself at a certain point, and be nowhere near where I need to be-thanks for the help!

Aluminum welding troubles with bobcat/spoolgun

howdy! Putting to use my "new" toy, a WC-115A and 30A spoolgun and running it off a bobcat 250. Putting together some lead holders out of some clean scrap I had laying around (just to get to know her a bit better) then run into trouble. Trouble, is that on 1/4" 2" sq tube, one pa...

Re: Is it possible to scratch start tig with a Lincoln Ranger

howdy- I was able to tig it off of my miller 250 bobcat. bit of a pain in the arse, but I had decent luck-I don't think I would put it into xrY quality, but certainly god enough to hold ranch dressing with some salt and pepper! just a little ole' condiment holder at a local rest. I used a WP17 air c...

Re: Best MIG aluminum machine.

howdy! We had exactly what you are looking at where I used to work doing custom aluminum rails (laid off) On the thinner stuff, just went fast, plenty of penetration, just had to be a bit careful with the flap disc!lol We used the tri mix at 15cfh, down around 16.5V for the thinner stuff, and kept i...

new adventure-sick welder syndrome?

http://www.anvilfire.com/iForge/tutor/safety3/index.htm I got myself real sick the other day, just puttering around in the garage, building my worktable. It had happened a couple of times before, but I chalked it up to being lazy & not grinding the metal down properly-Tuesday night was as sick a...

Very portable 110 TIG machine?

At the risk of starting a red/blue war, I am needing a Maxstar150 or invertec 155. I would appreciate any/all feedback on these machines, or even the HTP items, or any other suggestions. Had a 150 maxstar, didn't use it much, seemed like a good enough machine but sold it since it was sitting around. ...

Re: TIG WELDING STAINLESS STEEL TUBE

howdy- no pro here, but a start may be to go straight Argon at 20 with backgas. trimix or helium is also an option, though more costly, and you would have a very expensive bottle of gas waiting for the next time. argon will also work for the aluminum. keep the c25 for your mild steel work, get a bot...

Re: Need help running a 220 outlet out to my garage.

sounds like you are on the right track. Need to figure out how much juice you are going to be pulling-you don't want to be running a 300 amp dialarc on 12/3 on a 50' run. Simply put, figure how much you are going to be pulling so you can install the proper size wire, for the length of run. This shou...

compressor ideas

howdy! getting my mobile rig dialed in, looking for suggestions on a compressor. I run a lil ole hypertherm 600 plasma cutter, probably add CAG/CAC before long. looking to get input on a compressor. Style, brand,motor,size,etc...you get the picture. looking for ideas & why you went that directio...

Re: tacking problems

I too start low & increase amps. seem to keep a better eye on things that way than simply pouring the coals to it like I used to. Acetone can also be your friend Also-clean aluminum is happy aluminum. did steps for an old peterbilt for a neighbor, as the muck boiled out of the puddle I says to m...

I'm mobile & it makes a nice little investment. If you aren't, hard to beat a dedicated grinder. I couldn't tell much of a difference either. only my 2 cents-
take care-

polishing SS post TIG

howdy all!
I am wrapping a smoker I recently built with SS. Tigging lap joint every 6", 1" long for some hinges. What is the best method/product to polishing the discoloration on the backside?
thanks in advance!
