Better dials for the Primeweld 225X
Not a welding project per se but I wanted better indicators for the knobs on my 225X. To be clear this isn't meant to be some sort of accurate system like a digital readout. I just wanted something that I can use to set the machine approximately back to where I had it at a previous time. I 3D printe...

Re: Weld practice, holes in bead?
Thanks. Once I figured out why the holes were there I'm able to continue training. I switched back to the old standard collet instead of a gas lens. There are no grind marks because I polish new pieces the first time I use them. On future uses they are ground. I'm not exactly working with an optimal...

Re: Weld practice, holes in bead?
There’s virtually no benefit to using a “gas lens” for a cup smaller than a #6. If you are using a #5, switch over the standard collet body and drop your gas flow to 8cfh. It’s quite possible that the holes are being caused by heat soaked material with a turbulence from the cheap lens. (Hard as it ...

Re: Weld practice, holes in bead?
Thanks. I think I'm making some progress. I went back over the holes and it seems to be some sort of surface tension in the puddle (like a bubble). I imagine that could be for a number of reasons and I will have to try numerous things to see what the core problem is. It seems impossible to close the...

Weld practice, holes in bead?
I'm a new welder just practicing running the torch with no filler. There are 3 runs in the picture. The two on the outside were done first, then it cooled for a bit and I did the one in the middle. What happened to the middle one? What causes those swirl looking holes? This seems to happen every onc...
