chop saw blade deflecting

New to metal working. I was recently cutting some 1/8" thick 1.5" square tube mild steel with my used Black & Decker Model 3935 14” chop saw (3800 RPM) with 1" arbor. I noticed that as I was cutting, the blade seemed to be deflecting to the right. It was deflecting so much that it...

Re: gas leaking from tank connection

I bought the tank and welder used. This is the first time I've actually checked for leaks. The threads look okay to me. And no dirt.

gas leaking from tank connection

I noticed my MIG welder losing gas fairly quickly so I checked for gas leaks using soap/water. Lots of bubbles coming from where the regulator threads into my tank. Is this normal? Do most people use teflon tape at this connection to create a better seal? Thanks.

best way to remove surface rust

I have a 16ga sheet of cold rolled mild steel that I lay on top of a sheet of MDF to tack up projects. It rusts fairly quickly. Just wondering what the easiest way to remove the rust is without taking away too much material. I've used my angle grinder with a 60 grit flap disk but found that a bit to...

Mine says DOT-3AA2015. So I'm guessing my tan is rated to 2015 PSI?

what PSI should a 20 cubic foot welding tank be when full?

I have a 20 cubic foot tank for my MIG welder. It's probably the smallest size of tank you can get at approximately 16" tall. I just got it filled with 75% Argon/25% CO2. I'm wondering what PSI this size of tank should read when full? It's reading 700 PSI after being filled.

Thanks!

What is the second gauge for?

I'm new to MIG welding. I have a 20 cubic foot tank that I just got filled with 75% Argon % 25% CO2. My question is about the gauges in the photo below. My first gauge is CFH (cubic feet of gas per hour) which I understand. I'm not sure what the second gauge is measuring though. It's measuring 700 P...

Re: Can't figure out how to switch from 0.030" to 0.023"

in your final picture, there is a little black piece beside the drive wheel. Is that a piece that came off with the wheel or is that a dark spot on the board? just curious as that might have caused a pinch on the shaft and make the wheel hard to get off. kind of mess up the tolerance. That's actual...

I managed to get the drive roller off. I stuck two small shims in behind either side of the roller after spraying some PB blaster on the shaft. Then I hit the shaft with a mallet and it came loose.

Can't figure out how to switch from 0.030" to 0.023"

I have a 15 year-old Mastercraft MIG Welder (Model 58-8032-0). It’s not a common welder, only sold in Canada. Got it for $120 used. It says it takes 0.030” and 0.023” wire. I can’t figure out how to make the drive wheel line up with the wire so that it uses the smaller groove for 0.023” wire. I’ve o...

Okay thanks everyone. Noted. That sucks but I'm glad it was a cheap helmet.

weld spatter on helmet lens

Hi,

I'm new to MIG welding. I was doing some welding and got a lot of spatter on my helmet lens recently. I believe the lens is plastic as this was a cheap $50 helmet from Amazon. Is there any way to get the spatter off without damaging the lens or is the spatter melted into the plastic? Thanks
