Re: Paralysis by analysis -or- What should I buy?

As an owner of a Neverlast 255EXT, I strongly suggest you buy something else. They claim a 5 year warranty, but I challange you to find anybody that got real support after 6 months. Mine tried turning into a boat anchor after 16 months or so. The company blamed it all on my methods. Nevermind that ...

Re: Paralysis by analysis -or- What should I buy?

I've decided.... Everlast PowerTIG 210EXT. Going this way, I won't be tempted to take the easy way out with MIG, but rather will need to practice and use TIG skills. It's true I would have preferred a blue, red or yellow machine, but there's so much other stuff to buy that I felt that I needed to sa...

Re: Paralysis by analysis -or- What should I buy?

After counting all my shekels and figuring out what I REALLY want, it turns out I figured I should forgo the do everything units. Boy, it sure adds up quickly, all these little trinkets, Argon bottle, gloves, helmet, welding table materials, welding cart materials, filler rods and the list goes on. ...

Paralysis by analysis -or- What should I buy?

I'm spinning my wheels here...... NEED: Nothing WANT: Everything I don't have any specific needs other than wanting to learn to do stuff. I'm retired and I am not looking for a new career, but I am looking to challenge myself to learn new skills. Back in the 1970s, I did learn Forge, Stick, MIG, TIG...

Re: HF start, is it an EMP in the waiting?

Thanks guys, I was just unsure as the way manufacturers describe HF start..... they write things so vaguely. I just wanted to be sure that if I sat down at the welding table and forgot I had my phone in my pocket, I wouldn't be needing to buy a new one! Ditto for my Yamaha. I'd hate to have it screw...

Re: Hello from the north

The Esab is a much higher quality machine compared to the green box. A 200amp power source capacity is all you need for what you'll likely be getting up to. Good choice. As usual, a wrench has been tossed into the works. I checked with my local gas supplier (I really like the way they treat custome...

HF start, is it an EMP in the waiting?

In much of what I have read, HF start is listed as causing problems for other electronics, but it's unclear if it is simply an electrical disturbance or if is it more like an EMP event. I don't have a problem with noisy reception or possibly missing a call on the cell phone in my pocket, but if my c...

Re: Hello from the north

Listen to the voices, obey the voices. Once you start with the tig it kinda takes over and you want to be able to tackle anything that comes along. And it will come along. Someone will want you to repair his bike or boat prop. If you don't get one now you'll have to bone up for another one later. H...

Re: Hello from the north

Welcome aboard. Dreadfully sorry to read your wife's passing. I probably won't last a week if mine should get the good sense to give me the boot. ;) Thanks, It takes a long time to get used to being alone after 35 years. She had a rough go of it, first a stroke... fine, we managed to get that sorte...

Hello from the north

Hi, Name is Christian and I'm in Winnipeg, MB Canada. I've not yet purchased a welding machine, but I'm enjoying watching videos on YouTube and slowly remember my training when I grew up in Norway. Back then, a scratch only TIG machine was probably close to 400lbs. Most of the work we did was stick ...
