Re: 4T
I guess I should have been more specific. I was just wondering if anyone used this technique in their tig welding and how it worked out for them. I don't use the current control buttons/pot on the torch because I tend to lose control of the arc as tweake said. Some machines give 4T type current con...

Re: When do you use a split collet vs a wedge collet?
I'm still scratching my head a little as to why weldmonger includes both styles of collets in some of their kits, but I won't worry too much on that. Probably because there will be someone who can't weld without a split collet - or vice versa. Or perhaps it was determined by stock availability. But...

Re: 4T
Thanks weldmonger for the excellent video on 2T/4T. I've been told that in Europe, many tig welders use torch switches exclusively rather than foot pedals and use the 4T technique to "bracket" the ideal welding amperage. While I can understand this, I still prefer the foot pedal. However,...

CK Worldwide think they are an improvement that don't twist and last longer. They are interchangeable with slotted collets.

Re: Tungsten cleaning
Aside from the cost (time), dipping will likely change the characteristics (doping) of the tungsten.
I have not tried but I expect that will change its work function and therefore arc starting and arc stability - including partial rectification.
I'd just cut it off or replace it.

Re: Everlast 250ex oscilloscope test
The third photo shows the voltage spiking over 5000 volts! With a 50M samples/second CRO, you would be hard pressed to resolve a pulse that is 40ns wide. Those in the image are much narrower than that and you are not likely to see 5kV unless HF start is operating. One reason some like to use an ana...

Hi Simclardy, Thank you for all this info it is much appreciated :) . Re: Lincoln Squarewave Tig 175 - Overheating?
Is it as simple as replacing that resistor, or is this the effect of a different short/malfunction somewhere else inside the machine? Generally, resistors get hot as a result of something else being wrong. Changing the resistor is unlikely to fix the problem. As suggested, clean it out first and ma...

Different how?
I think you need to be a bit more forthcoming with information. Do you have a manual? Does it say that both MAG/MIG and FCAW-S are supported? Is there anything similar to what I posted on yours? What about a picture?

Re: Tig torch
In many cases the actual resistor value doesn't even matter that much as most machines use it as a voltage divider and just measure the position by the voltage drop across this. On these you could run pretty much any potentiometer of a few K-ohms as they will all show exactly the same voltage 'swee...

Re: Yes welder 250 ac/DC pulse - blue and white box
The maximum current is generally set on the machine but some pedals have an additional pot so that the pedal can only use a portion for the maximum set on the machine. I think your pedal connection looks like this: YesWelder 250 ACDC pulse Pedal Connection.png But if you add another pot like this on...

Re: Getting shocked from work clamp
I don't know what's inside that machine but it sounds like there is a short between the welding circuit and mains ground. Assuming the case is grounded (connected to mains ground), your open circuit voltage of 82V will appear (probably) between the return clamp and the case (or mains ground). It is ...

I realise it doesn't help you much but I am curious how that is an upgrade. I would go to the ball type rather than from it. Is what you have of poor quality - or broken - that you want to change?

This entire years old thread is a solution in search of a problem. A single, moment of a rush of argon is completely inconsequential to welding. Anyone who doesn’t tap a pedal when first setting up, or checking for leaks after a tank swap is an alien. You can’t even begin to calculate the “l...

Re: Big gush of argon?
HI folks. I have the welder listed below. It came with a flowmeter. I was wondering if the pressure is too high though. When I start a weld there's a big gush. I don't know if it's adjustable. I could put a regulator ahead of the flowmeter I guess. I don't know if this affects my Al but my steel lo...

Re: 100% argon for mig welding
to add, mig (mild steel) is actually mag ie active gas. Yes, that's true. But you are not going to change the seemingly millions of people who call anything with a wire feeder "MIG". That's why I wrote "MIG (GMAW & FCAW-G)". here tri mix is the norm which has a small amount ...
