Re: TIG welder at work - who gets to use it?

Ah I get what your saying now. Could do a very simple test of their knowledge by setting the welder up foraay alum and ask them to weld steel. Watching what they do might be well worthwhile. Sent from my Pixel 3a using Tapatalk  That's a good one. I guess there's lots of things that could be d...

Re: TIG welder at work - who gets to use it?

Thank you all for the responses! I really appreciate it. I needed to hear from some of you guys what your thoughts were on this, to make sure I wasn't too far off base here. For now, I'll just let it ride the way it is with me having everything locked up. But now I will be more prepared to handle th...

Re: TIG welder at work - who gets to use it?

Togg, I may not have worded my question well enough. I don't really have a problem with keeping/getting it locked out. My problem is trying to decide who gets to use it. I have co-workers approach me and ask "where's the tungsten? I want to use the TIG welder." Then I have to try and figur...

TIG welder at work - who gets to use it?

Hello All, Looking for some advice. We have a new Miller Dynasty 210 at work. I have been "given" the task of setting up/maintaining/controlling the use of it, since I know the most about TIG. Our business is powdered metal forgings and, by nature, it is a rather dirty plant (graphite dust...

Re: Aluminum boat repair guidance

Thanks Louie & CJ737! Here is the repair. Hit the crack with MAPP torch multiple times to find ends of crack. Drilled 1/8" holes at the ends of crack. Grooved out crack a little with carbide burr. Buffed inside of crack the best I could with scotch brite then acetone wipe on both sides. Ran...

Aluminum boat repair guidance

Hello All, Looking for a little guidance on welding up a crack. I believe this is a crack from a dock impact. Hull thickness based on info from manufacturer is .100" (might be a little thinner due to being on the corner). My research says it is most likely 5052 alum. Plan on using 5356 filler -...

Re: How would you tackle this?

OK, so the next part of this panel: I need to now weld 16ga sheet on the other side but it will cover the frame ( flush with the outside dimensions of sq. tube frame. High temp insulation goes in the space between the sheets. I'm stuck with what I got on the small door panel (the pics I attached), b...

Re: How would you tackle this?

Thank you all for the responses! I started this project with 2 goals in mind: #1 to have a nice size project with lots of welding (TIG in this case for practice and learning) and #2 to build my own smoker. Definitely getting a lot of TIG work in and definitely learning things (related to welding) !!...

How would you tackle this?

Hello All, Working on a door panel. The material is steel 1" sq. tubing .083" wall frame that has 14 ga. panel inserted in inner dimensions of frame and welded all the way around ( has to 100 percent sealed). I used 3/32 cer., #7 cup, stubby gas lens set up. 160 amps with 1.5 pps, 30% peak...

Hello from Southern Indiana

Hello All, Long time listener, first time caller  Been checking out this forum off and on for the last 7 years and have finally decided to join. I started welding around 2001 at my first job with a robotics integrator (MIG welded fixture stands, framework for robotic cells, end of arm tooling),...
