Re: Machinist Forums

I tend to agree with the latest replies here PM has to much good information already there to ignore. Yeah some people there can be pricks but the information in between those posts is usually helpful. And like already mentioned whatever information you’re looking for is likely already there hobby a...

Re: Metal floor

I wouldn’t be worried about a metal floor. The mentions of catching a little high freq gave me a little smile though. It’ll wake you up. Especially when you’re just sitting there thinking about something else while waiting for something to cool off or whatever not thinking that you still have your f...

That’s some pretty good advice and not something I would have thought to tell someone to check. I have to say good job to CJ. I’m impressed

I think you’re doing the right thing by holding off. After 25 years of making a living under the hood of a car, I wouldn’t doubt that in the right situations especially during the summer time ( depending on your location) that everything under the hood could be in excess of 150 degrees Fahrenheit. I’m pretty sure the original post was a prank!! It is kinda funny when you look at it like a prank. Those welds are obviously terrible and they asked “ rate my welds “

Re: Primeweld Tig225 power supply current needed?

Thanks G-man, I have wondered for a long time how they size welder circuits smaller than the maximum amperage rating of the machine. I learned something new today thanks to you. I’ve probably asked 4 different electricians for the formula that you just gave and was always answered with murmurs, shru...

Re: Primeweld Tig225 power supply current needed?

To the OP, I have the exact same machine as you do and run it on a 40amp circuit. I haven’t had any problems as of yet and have run it at its highest settings. I would assume that a 30amp circuit would be enough but there are many factors that play into the equation that is your question. I believe ...

Re: Chromoly roll cage

Just let a 6 year old kid have it for a day. If it comes back in one piece, your welds are good. That may greatly depend on the kid. Some of the kids I know wouldn’t bring it back at all. Instead you’d have to go get it from next to the X box where they spent all their time since you gave it to the...

Re: Troubles getting puddles to come together

I agree with the responses above suggesting more amps. The only thing that hasn’t been addressed is your fusion tacks. Your going to need a bunch more amps for those. Like double what you would weld with. Or in your case turn the machine all the way up and get on the pedal full and right back off of...

Re: Cracks in center of weld

I’m no pro here but I’d probably use 3/32 filler for your project unless I couldn’t feed it fast enough or I was dealing with a large gap or poor fit up. There are questions that you may want to learn to ask yourself about different things to make sure you got everything set up properly. As far as f...

Re: Primeweld 225 - Slow amperage reaction with pedal

Thanks for the update. When using the pedal you may want to use the selection for the foot pedal. I believe the switch for the foot pedal is on the upper left part of the control panel. Otherwise it may be more beneficial to use the finger switch.

Re: Welding helmets for the visually impaired??

After my last post in this thread I tried my optrel hood on with safety glasses on. I didn’t have any problems. Made a few welds that way. I think a reasonable sized pair of glasses would fit under the optrel CLX 2.0 just fine. Hopefully this helps someone.

Re: Welding helmets for the visually impaired??

I have one of those expensive optrel hoods and I really like it. I’m not admitting to having impaired vision in any way but the one I have goes over the bridge of my nose and might get in the way of glasses. Jackson safety has a similar technology in some of their large flat lenses that may work bet...

There’s some good advice here I think. Being that I’ve only been Tig welding for a few months I’ve never polished a piece of tungsten to know what would happen. I do have the ability to dip my electrode faster than I can dip chips in salsa though.[emoji23][emoji1787] Considering how often I’m grindi...

In case my first correct answer doesn’t qualify. My guess would be it’s to hold a spool of electrical wire. I’ve seen my election buddies use something like that.

It’s several pieces of metal welded together. Otherwise known as good practice.

Re: My biggest fear as a newbie

There’s some good advice given here. Get a machine and do some welding. It’s my opinion that the prime weld will serve you well and it a good value considering the options, accessories and support that you get with it. Keep in mind that it’s not a $3000 machine and doesn’t have the same conveniences...

My biggest fear as a newbie

Tig Tag, I’ve had a Tig welder for about 4 months now and I’m glad I got it. I had mig welding experience before I got my prime weld 225 but I’m glad I have learned and am still learning how to Tig weld. It took me about 3 weeks of practicing 3-5 times a week to lay some decent welds on aluminum. As...

I haven’t actually been to Epstein’s hardware myself but I’ve heard it’s worth the day you’ll spend there on their multiple floors of tools and hardware. I’m gonna go someday.

Thx for all the input. I’ve thought about building a cooler as far as contemplating several different designs from very simple to ridiculously complex. In the end if I were to build my own I’d probably have more in it than I could buy a decent one for. The bucket of water idea would work but like bu...

Do I really need a water cooled torch?

I’m just wondering what other people’s opinions are. I’ve had a TIG welder for about 4 months now. A Prime Weld 225. I’ve owned other mig welders since I can’t remember when. I mostly just weld for a hobby and occasionally a project that I feel will be enjoyable and practice because I enjoy doing it...
