Re: Flash when backing off

Sounds like the sensitivity setting on your helmet is too low. It may be permitting that change of brightness from your arc diminishing to turn off the shade. You can also set the DELAY on some helmets to remain shaded longer. Check those ideas out if your helmet has such adjustments. I never thoug...

Flash when backing off

I've recently purchased a Lincoln Square Wave TIG200 to replace my old Eastwood unit. So far I love it, but I have something weird going on and I'm not sure if it my setup, something I'm doing, or the machine. When I get to the end of a weld and start backing the amperage off slowly, I get a bright ...

Re: Machine Issues

I suspect something is wrong with the pot in the foot pedal, but you might almost need an oscilloscope to see what's going on. I'm not sure a meter will respond fast enough or would show you what's happening. Maybe set to ohms and range set to manual, you could follow the display well enough to see...

Machine Issues

Hey everyone, I'm having a weird issue with my machine. It's a used Eastwood TIG200 that has so far served me well. When I step on the pedal the amperage is exactly where I want it. I get a few dabs of filler in then it "goes to 11" and cooks a hole in my workpiece. I tried it on some scra...

Re: Motorcycle Frame Restoration

Sconnie - If you're new to that type of welding, definitely consider making many many practice runs on scrap tubing first. Even consider buying quite a bit more tubing than you may need for the job so it is the same. Open roots (and even beveled butt joints) on relatively thin tubing are some of th...

Re: Motorcycle Frame Restoration

If the tubing is 25mm, then the frame must be Japanese? If so, all the frames I’ve welded from there have been 0.063 wall. But to answer your question... match the OD even if you have to order the tubing. You can use some 0.024 MIG wire and open root the weld. It will be far stronger than the antiq...

Motorcycle Frame Restoration

Hello all. My first post and I'm hoping for some help on a situation I've surprisingly never run into before. I'm replacing some damaged motorcycle frame sections on a restoration project that are somewhat structural in nature. The existing metal is .120 25mm steel, and I'm planning on welding in so...
