Re: I think I killed my Lincoln 210 MP

A quick Google search yielded this response on WeldingWeb: "https://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?703953-New-Lincoln-210MP-tripping-Circuit-Breaker-on-machine-startup" Scroll to bottom to see the reply from the Repair Tech. Thanks, I saw that. Problem is, I contacted Lincoln and my ma...

Re: I think I killed my Lincoln 210 MP

Well, I was hoping to find some component broken open with a huge scorch mark next to it, but everything looked very clean, no bulging capacitors, no burned out resistors from what I could see. The only thing that looked even slightly discolored was the transformer

Re: I think I killed my Lincoln 210 MP

The high expenses of repairing the board are probably due to the need of specialized equipment to acid wash the coating off. I’d ask if they recoat it after they fix it. So, there is a coating? My machine is out of warranty so I really don't have anything to lose by giving it a shot. Hopefully, wit...

Re: I think I killed my Lincoln 210 MP

So if I'm reading correctly, it's tripping the presumably 20 amp breaker simply while booting up before ever striking an arc? Have you tried another breaker entirely? .<snip> However if it does it on another 20 amp circuit then I would suspect it is indeed an issue with the electronics within the m...

Re: I think I killed my Lincoln 210 MP

So, I went to Lincoln and searched for parts. That board, if I'm not mistaken, costs about $700. Which is 70% of what I paid for the machine. This would mean that I'd have to hope for a component level repair that would almost certainly be a very small fraction of that amount. However, during my goo...

Re: I think I killed my Lincoln 210 MP

Have you tried replacing that breaker or a circuit with a different breaker? Tried different circuit, same results. ... Also unlikely but what about any other appliance causing it. Air compressor kicking on ect...... I don't think that's it. I've tried different things and gotten the same results a...

I think I killed my Lincoln 210 MP

I haven't wired the garage for 240 yet so for the past few years I've been welding using the 120 option. It was never uncommon to trip the breaker from time-to-time, but I've always just reset the breaker and gone back to work. Last week I tripped the breaker, reset it, turned the machine on and aft...

Re: Cannot see the bead when stick welding

Still too dark for my preference. I typically run about an 8 for stick welding at those amps. Add some extra ambient light to your welding area and make sure you aren't getting any light leaking in from the back of the helmet. That should do the trick. I also like to try and "hide" the ar...

Re: Cannot see the bead when stick welding

We found the problem , unless your lucky enough that your Home Depot has actual Lincoln 7018 Excalibur rods like Oscar's apparently does, they're probably Lincoln's 7018AC like most stores carry, they do NOT have the same distinct puddle that a normal 7018 does and are much harder to read. Ah,...

Re: Cannot see the bead when stick welding

@sbaker56: Lincoln, but just picked those up at Home Depot when I ran through all my Hobart. Usually, I can manipulate the rod a bit "by feel", I can feel the rod come in contact with the steel. @Louie1961 turned it from 10.5 to 9, helps a bit, but not much @Oscar 3/32 at 100 amps. Mind yo...

Cannot see the bead when stick welding

To begin, I'm a hobbyist welder. To keep myself from going nuts with all this quarantine nonsense one of the things I do is go out to the garage each evening and lay down some practice beads. I run 4 rods of 7018 and then do about a dozen beads using the MIG (Lincoln MP 210). MIG is not a big proble...
