Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

Interesting Oscar. Kind of strange to use such a scale.

I've often wondered about my machines but never set up a camera on an amp meter to check.

You are serious about 250% aren't you. I thought it was a typo. That's some serious dig. Have you checked current versus arc length? That would be interesting to see.

Re: Primeweld Tig 225 welding cart

Funny you mention this, BillEDee - I made a cart a few years back and when I put the welders on, the damn rear facing gas connections were obstructed by the tanks. Imagine my language... I had taken so much care to TIG weld coped tubes and set everything perfectly. Forgot to calculate in the fricki...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

What was the topic of this thread again? Oh stick welding or something like that. I guess it will circle around when Oscar receives his 6011 rod, so glad I don't have to/need to, stick weld anymore, but hey that's just me. The current topic is which is your favorite pizza topping  Oh and...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

I've always thought of Ieff as RMS current, and Imax as peak current. Most of these inverter welders do not have proper power factor correction I find that most of the inverters seem to have it, although not all, but many of them do. When transformer machines were the norm it was an add-on, like on...

Yes, the DV has PFC but the SV doesn't. This is per Jeff Nolan and the numbers they post for each model.
From the memory of the welders I researched, the DV221 and the Fronius welders have PFC circuits.

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

I suspected you were looking at things from the NEC side for sizing wire, which allows derating. I've always thought of Ieff as RMS current, and Imax as peak current. Most of these inverter welders do not have proper power factor correction which can lead to high peak currents as the input circuits ...

Alan, I was trying to tig braze a brass sprayer wand. Pretty thin stuff. Very fine line between blowing holes and rod not melting.

Oscar, I'll have to read up on Ieff and Imax. I have a different understanding, but you have me questioning myself.

I'm what process? I don't think I'll believe that until I see it. That would be 12.9V arc voltage at 100% efficiency.

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

Alan, are those Primeweld numbers the max or effective values? I don't remember. Regardless, it's not one to kick breakers often. I maxed it out tig welding on 110V no problem, and it stick welds 3/32” so I call that good enough! The machine has its limits though. It couldn't make me good enough to ...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

I've had no problem running the Primeweld or 210STL on 120V 20A circuit using 3/32" electrodes. As long as extension cords aren't involved. The it gets tricky, but it is possible.

110V capable machines open up options and solve problems when stuff needs fixed away from the shop.

Nice Alan. What's the deal with magnetic clamp? in the bottom pic? I haven't seen those before. If I ever get a concrete floor I'll build something similar. Moving a welder and argon bottle is no fun in my barn. Impressive likeness of the Primeweld. You even got its good side. From the pics, and my ...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

The 3/32" were Inweld. The 1/8" are unknown from LWS. Lincoln I think. I didn't take a pic Oscar. They looked like any other 6010 bead I've ran. Showed every little manipulation of the rod. Typical fast freeze rod. I was just switching techniques, playing with are length, doing restarts, n...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

I ran a few each of 3/32" & 1/8" 6010 tonight with the Primeweld Tig225. They did run ok. Easy to strike an arc. Enough arc force to dig in fine, but not enough to punch through plate like some welders. Plenty of voltage to step out of the puddle for whip and pause. Voltage is high eno...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

I've got a Everlast 210STL and I can run 6011 with arc force at 0%, but it's not easy or pretty. Arc force turned up some makes it much nicer to run. I picked this machine partly because of hot start and arc force adjustments. And it was $400! I was going to buy that, actually did, and returned it ...

Re: Testing some stick on the Primeweld 225...

Interestingly enough, I've found arc force actually isn't necessary to run 6011 or 6010 at all if the machine is capable enough. I suspect it might compensate if the machine would otherwise struggle. I've ran 6010 with arc force set low, or even all the way down on my machine without any trouble, a...

Re: Does anyone selll pre-bent square stock?

Alan, what about just notching the square tubing in 7 places, and bending and welding to create 8 straight segments that approximate the curve?

Seems simply enough. Plus you get more hood time.
