Relative Locations?
Of course nobody post their actual address or within a couple miles of where they live, but I honestly think it would be fantastic to occasionally get a meet up or two going between a couple closer members or even plan maybe a bit a a carpool road trip off in the future, far fetched future, but I've...

Re: Need Advice on First Setup
Yes, learn on thicker 1/4"-3/8" coupons, get a nice quality gas lens stubby kit from jody, 3/32 lanthanated tungsten etc get a nice helmet like the Lincoln 3350, that would be a perfect choice, not to be morbid but you can't take it with you so while cheap on the important stufff now. Hone...

Re: Dual Shield in IronMan 230
I almost forgot you don't have a WFS or Voltage readout. You've got plenty of juice for the job, When I need nerdy and try to dial my wire in directly according to data sheets, I hook multimeter up to the terminals on the welder and monitor welding voltage, SInce your wire speed goes from 0-100 and ...

I will never go back to 2% Ceriated, 2% Lanthanated, 2%Thoriated or E3 unless the aluminum work is dirty and I can't get it clean will not use the Alustar use the cheaper tungsten's. Just finish another 25 tanks and only touched the tungsten once with the welding rod when it hit my chair and pushed...

Re: Coolmate 4 liquid cooling
Instead of getting "fancy" with Y connections and other hoses, you can just use quick couplers on the coolmate from each of the torches. The more fittings, the more likely you may have a leak somewhere you aren't watching/using. Either way It is up to YOU to make certain that the cooler i...

SIlicon Bronze brazing copper honestly sounds like an absolute nightmare let alone with mig. Copper is the king of heat conductivity and silicon bronze melts at very close to the same temperature pure copper does, so you'll basically be melting copper by the time you've heated it up enough to stick...

Are you actually overheating the torch on the Multimatic 220? I'd personally hook it up to the Syncrowave 250 and keep in mind the duty cycle of the Multimatic 220 and air cooled tig torch aren't too far apart.

On 1/8 plate, I'd personally advocate for a 1/16 rod over a 3/32 rod unless stability/shaking is an issue and a stiffer 3/32 rod is easier to control. Other's have given you good advice, keep the stickout long enough to see your puddle clearly, while gas lenses can be a bandaid that can disguise not...

Re: weld spatter on helmet lens
Ick where is your protective outer lens :o. Good thing it was a cheap helmet. Typically you have the auto darkening cartridge itself sandwiched between a inner and outer protective lens. Those lenses are disposables and should be treated as such. I generally try to keep at least 5 outer lenses and 2...

By boomerang shaped weld pool are you talking about a convex or concave bead or are you saying your weld puddle itself is barely stable and wants to solidify on you? Assuming you've done a cut and etch to verify you're not melting into the root I'd suggest dropping the frequency to 60-100hz. The hig...

Re: Never welded Aluminum but now I must.
IF you have a speed adjustable grinder, turn the speed down. The aluminum will gum up the disc. I usually use bees wax on the disc to help aleviate the the gumming. Wipe the area to clean the grindings...some use acetone and some use alcohol (the rubbing kind). You will also want to determine IF th...

YES, not just double emphasis on the flap disc but triple, get some one treated for aluminum or simply a cheap 10 pack of ZA discs in bulk from Benchmark abrasive like the boat shop I worked at did, they eat aluminum plenty fast but not gouging and chewing away the aluminum in such concentrated area...

It's the manufacturer HTP contracts with for their own welders. Basically it's an in house/country HTP. Correct me if I'm wrong OscarSuperiorwelding wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 9:37 am I have never heard of Stel. Is this another knock off cheap brand?

Ah thanks for the heads up, as simple of a thing as that is, I'm afraid machinist connections are the one kind I don't have, though perhaps a CNC plasma table could cut something like that out accurately enough, especially with a little hand finishing. Even though I no longer work at the boat shop o...

I'm just jealous of the problem to have right now ;), I guess the thought of spending the money for a plasma cutter/sandblaster for a compressor to run a plasma cutter/sandblaster etc always tempers my impulses to buy a larger one :).
