Re: Welding Gas Tanks - Options for Buying Used

This might get long winded but here goes. I pick up dry ice for the company I work for once a week and I get it at my LWS. I have managed to build a really good rapport with the guys there. Got to talking with them when I saw a CL ad for a torch set but it said the tanks would need to be hydro teste...

Re: Would You Buy a Tank Stamped 1974?

I have a really good rapport with my local supply guy. I'm actually taking in a big ol acetylene bottle and trading it for a tri-mix.. all I have to pay for is gas. Talk to your local guy. I still have 6 empty tanks of various sizes and gasses that I have bought off CL and use for swapping. I was ab...

Re: Looking for coupons.

Where do people get scrap or coupons for pipe tests. Looking to practice 6inch 6g pipe as well as 2inch. Will be doing stick all the way out/ tig all the way out, or tig root, hot, stick fill and cap. I've seen Jonathan sells pipe coupons and willing to support his business, but I am on a budget an...

Just thinking out loud but if it was possible, I'd flip every other truss to alternate stresses on the equipment. provided the equipment is built to do that... also if they aren't using the whole 16', maybe run the truss a few feet in from one side or the other.

I'm still new to this too, but more than likely done with tig, tig produces no spatter and can be very precise in the right hands... but not in mine. LOL

Alright thanks for the tips, looking forward to drop $250 on an argon tank.. You might be able to take your C25 tank back, even if its not empty and exchange for pure argon, that way you just pay for the argon and not another tank. My lws says a tank is a tank, you don't have to get what you bring ...

Re: Weld to plate laying on concrete - bad idea?

Just throwing ideas, and I'm sure someone will confirm or deny but what about placing a piece of cement board down instead of aluminum plate? Would the aluminum and steel cause an area of reactivity? it would also help to maybe absorb some of the heat you're talking about. hope you get it figured out.

When I went looking, I didn't NEED one either, but thought it would be fun to have, I had just bought a mig welder and thought why not. I went for the Amico Power Cut 50, it was around 300 bucks, and I thought this way if it wasn't something I wasn't going to use, I wouldn't be out a grand...(I did ...

You made some excellent, albeit a little brittle, foam-carbon heat insulation pads there! :D If you put a blowtorch on one side you can usually still touch the back without getting burned at all. Quite interesting stuff, really.. :geek: Bye, Arno. EVERYBODY gonna be burning toast tonight!! LOL

Hey Chips, first I assume your work lead is grounded properly, if connected to your table, is the table clean? Mill scale is a big pain, but sounds to me like you could use to up the amps... What kind of machine are you running? I am logically guessing here and hope someone who knows more chimes in....

Hello all, I'm just a hobbyist welder. presently I use a lincoln 225 ac stick welder. whenever I watch these car fabrication shows, they're either using mig or tig welding. I might want to invest in another welder for welding thin stuff, but because I only do this occasionally, don't want to invest...

Paso Robles , Ca checking in.

Hello all, I am here to learn and help in any way I can.. I have always wanted to weld but never had the means. I finally bought a Lincoln AC/DC arc welder a few years ago but only had a 30 amp dryer plug available, it worked, but not really and I didn't want to ruin the machine. Then I came up with...

Re: Best place to buy (get) material for practise

New to TIG welding and I have a good bit of scrap aircraft grade material (4130 and 7075-T6) but would like to get a good bit of 5052 or 3003 plus some mild steel for practise. Local in Atlanta. Anyone reasonable in the area. Already called a couple of "Steel" places without much luck. So...
