Re: Not much to say....
Well, it is converted to DCEN, tested, and put back away because I don't need it right now. Nice to have that bullet in the belt in case, though!

Re: AC to DC Conversion
Tried it today. Much better than before, but found that I have to cut the wire right at the exit of the torch. This gives a short delay before the wire makes it to the workpiece, giving the cap time to charge. Otherwise, it just sticks to the workpiece and doesn't start arcing. Did a ~2.5" bead...

Re: AC to DC Conversion
Sorry to dredge up an old thread. Just finished the conversion on my HF 90 A flux core with parts that I've had for over a year. 100amp 1000volt rectifier (I feel the 150 amp 3 phase probably are not fully 150 amp on one phase), 2 paralleled 33000 mfd 50 Volt caps. I used 4 AWG for hook up to/from r...

Re: Not much to say....
This is still an unmodified Harbor Freight (AC) box. I have the parts to make it DCEN, but never did the change because I had no pressing need for it (and life happened). When you run Flux Core, you should be running DCEN. MIG runs DCEP. Check your machine as there may be a means of hooking up your ...

Re: Not much to say....
Thanks, guys. This is flux core. I wire wheeled and ground before, welded some, ground some, welded some and saw I was way too hot, ground and cut to low power plus changed to more stick-out, welded, ground, welded. Kind of like the tack method you descibe because it was too awkwardly shaped to run ...

Re: Not much to say....
I haven't struck an arc (intentionally) since ~1970. But, the center stand on the Rocket is broken on one side, so I'll give it a try. The removal was tricky because I already had the rear wheel off and bearings out of it so I had to support the swing arms on jack stands. Was able to get clearance f...

Re: Welding education&courses in the US, international stude
I have heard that there are shipyards on our Gulf coast that want to hire thousands of welders in the near future. Knowing that there aren't that many free, they are planning to train and pay well. I would imagine that work visas would be easily obtained for this. The employer would assist in applic...

Not much to say....
That won't be attacked. Have one of the el-cheapo HF flux core MIG welders with parts to upgrade it to DCEN. Retired and working on old motorcycles. Do NOT plan to weld bikes! Just stands and such. Have not struck an arc (intentionally) since high school (stick) shop class unti I bought this a whule...
