Re: Starting tig

Try using a 6" pipe. Bevel the pipe on both sides. No land just a feathered edge. Set your gap slightly larger than 1/8" Place pipe in a c channel to line it up. Tack it at 12, 6, 3, and 9 oclock. This is how I started to learn to tig weld. Sharpen tungsten to a point using a grinding whee...

Heat Settings

After reading a bunch of posts, Many ask what do I set my machine at? Answer: There is no correct amperage for a rod. Only from experience will you know if the amperage is correct. The rod can will state a recommended starting amperage. From there you adjust your machine. Always use a scrap piece of...

Re: TIG Test

Its nice to look at.
But from my take on it it appears to
lack of fusion on the top and bottom toes. Also it could be a bit flatter than the convex
im seeing.
IMHO

Re: Porosity in welds!

1. Clean the weld area of all rust and mill scale.
2. Use only a newly opened box of rods.
3. Keep a tight arc.
4. Follow other tips given in this thread. There ia alot
of good advice from others.

Try siiting longer and add more filler wire especially on the root. Suck back is minimal. Better root beads

Re: Smaw CWB All Position Test

Yup keep a tight arc. Make sure your tie ins are good. When welding the bevel and straight side do it just as you would in the flat position. The trick for the middle weave is to stand so the plate is running away from you. do not stand perpndicular to the plate. The reason for this is when standing ...

Re: Tig Amperage

I agree that there is room to turn up but it depends on if your trying to run it single pass or multi pass. How big the joint is and weather it’s susceptible to heat input or warping. But how will I attain my goal of tig welding at mig speed if I don't turn it up and move? :D Tig is slower th...

Re: What am I doing wrong?

Go slower on the cap. Look behind your weld as well in front. If your fill is below the plate youll have to wait longer for the weld metal to flow over the edge. youll see this if you look behind your weld when welding. If you fill is flush with the plate then your travel speed will have to be faster.

Re: 6g weld test

Depends on what you need for work I guess.
always tested 6G with carbon tig.
tig root fill and cap. My F3F4 test has always
been 6010 root then 7018 fill and cap.
Find out what you require then do that.
